    A thing I learned.
A friend of mine who breeds corns has given me a new way to help your snakes get more of its meal and digest faster!

Im sure many know of it...but im going to tell eveyone of it anyway.

When you go to feed your snake cut the rat/mouse open. The stomache juices get into the body faster and digests it alot faster. And it gets more of the rat...Im not sure how but hte snake growes faster. I have noticed it. I will feed the snake a non-cut mouse one week then the next i will feed it a cut mouse and the cut mouse really digests faster and the snake growes a considerable amountover a few weeks time if it is on cut mice over non cut. Even though it digests faster I would still wait your 2-3 day periosd before handling. Anyone thast can back me up? I think I covered it.

From what I've read, that's a myth...seems really pointless, unnecessary and messy...

I agree with sho ... myth ... besides, what's wrong with how they grow normally? ... let the snake be a snake ... there are no shortcuts!

It takes way more than two weeks with one animal to prove anything. Someone would have to do a study with multiple groups of snakes over a long period of time.

How exactly can you measure the rate of digestion at home? Or the faster growth? Or are you just eyeballing it?

Sorry dude but i wouldnt put too much into the cut mouse thing. Ive heard about it numerous times and theres no proof to back it up .
As have been said already you cant prove anything with just 2 weeks of observation its take a good couple years at least with various groups , also id say that the cut mice would have to be the same size and weight to compare each snakes digestion/growth rate - ie one snake eating the normal way and the other snake eating a cut mouse of the same size and weight as the uncut mouse and compare each snakes growth over a few years , and even then all snakes grow at different rates anyway even if the same species are fed exactly the same times and with same food items , so even then you cant prove they are growing faster by eating cut mice .

Sorry if my ealier post sounded abit rude lol , it wasnt meant to be :)
i cant see feeding them like this would cause any harm as a lot of mice do pop when they eat them.
im just abit old fashioned and feed my snake the tried and tested way :)

    Not rude at all!

Nah, it doesnt do any harm. I just wanted to try what a friend gave me to try....lol.:carrot: Not to metion it saves me some time by not cutting them.

I did it with my corn snake for a few months... I got bored with cutting them (LOL), so I stopped. I didn't notice any difference in growth rates, but I only did it for a little while, and I have nothing to compare against. :P

You do realize that that's about as scientific as me saying - my snake has greater growth rates when I hop on one foot and give a good chin rub, than when I stand on my head and tickle the tail.

Sorry but it sounds hokey to me. ;)

but... i have to add... on cornsnake forums when you've had regurges from your corn, esp. multiple regurges - kathy love recommends you cut the pinkie before you feed it... that way your snake can possibly benefit from some of the nutrition faster before it regurges again.

it's not about growing them faster... but assisting them to get nutrients.

edited to add: (don't be sad flip flop... i'm kinda supporting your theory, in a roundabout, elusive sorta way)
