Jack gettin r done !!!! (DUW)

I know this is only the first step of many .... but am am so excited. I paired Jack (Het Pied) with Anita yesterday, and they spent a lot of time coiled up and "close" but I just checked them and ......

Gawd it's amazing how bored snakes look by the whole mating process LOL. Congrats Neil, hope Jack and Anita have a lovely bunch of baby BP's for you (please tell me you have a Diane for Jack though too).

Yes Anita is a normal, so a clutch would be 50% het pieds.

My other two big females are going to be paired with Blaze, and in fact he is in with Scarlet now but they do not seem to interested in each other yet.

They are in the basement, and we had a real drop in night time temps about a month ago. The ambient temps down there dropped about 5 degrees at night. I also started dropping the cage/tub temps 2 weeks ago ... 2 degees the first week, and then another 3 degrees this last week.

This is my very unscientific attempt at cooling since I dont have a snake room .....

I think we will be keeping them, and selling the males priced as "normals". We will have to see how Blaze does with the other 2 girls, if he will not breed this year then we will let Jack breed the other two. In that case we could end up with a few to sell.

so someone could buy your Possible het pieds and in a year place one in with another het pied to produce possibly some pieds? or you could sell them alittle more exspencive and as het pieds and ge more sold that way? Cause male normals dont selll as fast (you would think) as a het possible pied.

Well he can't actually sell them as "het pieds" just as "50% possible het pieds". Sounds like he's planning to do as we are with the male offspring of our 100% het albino male and our normal females. The male offpring will just be sold for nice pets with the information that they may carry the recessive albino gene.

But he can sell them as possible hets.;) I saw someone on another forum take a pair of possible het pieds and get 2!! pieds from them...;) i like them odds.

If's Neil selling some down the road I wouldn't mind buying a couple possible female's.

Oh heck yes! Nothing wrong with proving out possibles. That must be a major rush. My brain's not working but I know we had a member prove out a number of possible het Axanthic females this year didn't we?

Yes we did it was Tim bailey his good luck was part of the reason I didn't spend the extra money on a het-pied female. It's going to take long but it's going to be fun and amazing.

Think of it this way:

Possible Het females can be proved out by breeding them witha 100% het male or a homozygous male.

Possible Het males can be proved out the same way, but if you had a 100 het female or a homozygous female, why would you even take a chance with a possible het male???? 100% het males are not real expensive, and one could breed with several possible het females, with the idea that one or more will prove out.
