Re: my snake made a burrow!
Where's adam?!?!?!? I'm sure there's an explanation to this ! LOL
Re: my snake made a burrow!
how small are your two hides? sometimes when their hides aren't a tight enough fit (they like them to be small) then they'll make a small hide for themselves. ;)
sorry i'm not adam though.

yeah my snake has put his head to use and made a burrow.recently i noticed he was taking his head and poking at one area of dirt and making depressions(water bowl.). second he moved to the next corner and did the exact same thing. i did nt bother him for the rest of day. finally when i woke this morning to noticed his water bowl was moving up and down he was under it sleeping with now an entrance and exit. also he came to drank water and then went back under it. he also a baby but seems to be intelligent. has anybody snake ever done this.
No, that can't be possible. Ball Python's don't burrow at all.
Thank you for sharing this story and semi proving my point that ball pythons can dig and make burrows. :D
Re: my snake made a burrow!
To be fair, all he said was that his bp was making indentations in his substrate, although he did describe it as a "burrow". I thought this problem had been resolved about an age ago. Never mind.
EDIT: In my honest opinion, this doesn't prove anything. Nobody disputed that bps can shift their substrate around and make dents in it etc.
Re: my snake made a burrow!
Exactly. Just because his BP went underneath its waterbowl doesn't mean it burrowed.
Re: my snake made a burrow!
Definition of burrow: a hole or excavation in the ground made by an animal (as a rabbit) for shelter and habitation.
And with that said, I'm finished with this argument... :D
Re: my snake made a burrow!
well so to speak i would certainly say he s more comfortable with this "hide".

Stuffing yourself under a bowl does not count as an excavation in the ground. They mean actual tunnels, etc. through hard dirt (moles are an example of this).

Ball pythons may dig into the substrate and make a "burrow," in now way does that come close to overturning scientific classification of ball pythons that do not list them as a "burrowing" creature. Just wanted to bring the difference to light.
I invite you to go over to Africa and do a study on ball pythons in the wild to test your hypothesis. Rock on!
Re: my snake made a burrow!
and here i clicked on this thread cause i was happy to see others had posted to assisted this new member with his problem... and alas... nope. :P
so i'll just repeat my advice again... hoping to inspire others to post something helpful
unless of course you all think i've answered this questions soooooo perfectly that nothing needs to be added :wuv:

Re: my snake made a burrow!
my Nagaina has been "burrowing" for the past few days. never seen her do it before, and has since stopped. she had also been out checking things out in ger cage during that time, which she also took the opportunity to try a jail-break...unsuccessfully :)

Sure, if you fund it! ;)
Re: my snake made a burrow!
Go get your bio degree and you got a deal.
Re: my snake made a burrow!
Aleesha is right. your snake is hiding uner the waterbowl (NOT BURROWING AT ALL) because his hide/s are insufficient. ill put my money on it that if you provide to SUFFICIENT hides on the warm and cool area of the enclosure the snake will not go under the water bowl.
Brian, dont start with the "ball pythons burrowing" stuff. we prved and explain to you how they don;t and all you can do is come up with 2 websites that someone (with most likely no credentials) wrote up and example of what a noob with an unexperienced eye MIGHT CONSIDER "burrowing". a ball python hiding under its waterbowl is not burrowing. this is a actual burrowing animal, burrowing:
http://i32.photobucket.com/albums/d1...s/100_0201.jpg
can someone PLEASE show me a picture of an actual burrow that a ball python has made (and can prove that the ball python made it) with a ball python in it then. any takers?
if they do so their must be pictures and proof correct? i mean, ackies are known burrowers and i can prove that my ackie has made and uses a burrow. he is th only animal in that cage (besides feeder roaches) so he is the only animal in there that has possibly made a burrow. i can prove it! its not hard!
Re: my snake made a burrow!
Look, this has been resolved (without a shadow of a doubt!) in the other thread. Could we please stick to the subject in hand?
:) Sam
Re: my snake made a burrow!
ok. the question was, "has anyone ever seen a snake do this?" so the answer is, "yes". snakes do this to hide if the provided hides are not suitable. its not burrowing.
