    Introducing myself
    Hi everyone,
Just wanted to say hi. Name is Sidney Scott. I had one question as well. does it matter if I use a regular or long aquarium. I'd think it should be all about floor room but don't know for sure. Think I will use a 50 gal breeder tank, will that work for a male adult? I'm getting my first ball python when I get back to the U.S. Just need to get a setup plan first. Take care:D

    Welcome to the site!
Yes, you need a longer enclosure than a higher enclosure. A 50 gallon would be good for an adult male or female.

Have you ever heard of using tubs for housing snakes? A 50 gallon would be pretty hard to keep temps and humidity up and tubs are cheap and easier to use than tanks. Unless you are good at keeping temps and humidity up in there.

If you decide to stay with a tank, click on the link in Cassandra's signature. You'll see her in the forums often. :) Lots of great info in that thread

A 50 gallon tank is a bit large for a male, but could work. I think 40 would be fine. Have you considered tubs? They are wonderfully inexpensive and great at keeping temps and humidity stable. Ball pythons definitely need more floor space as opposed to head room.

    Oh and :welcome:

    Welcome!

This site is very useful!!!!! Now to give you a thought, make sure the tank is long enough for a thermal gradient (hot, cool sides)

Welcome and thanks Sidney! Let me know if you have any questions...I'll be sure to get my fiance, Rick 'Captain Overkill' to reply as he is the master tank-setter-upper at our house...

We just last night put a "display lock" on the sliding glass doors on Cleo's new enclosure as she's starting to seem smarter than she's looks and we don't want human error + snakey smarts = snakey escape. :)

yeah I'm pretty sure I'll have a question or two during the setup. I will be in the U.S. for the first time since June, around the first week of Nov. Hopefully I can get all the supplies I need frim my local petsmart.

    Re: Introducing myself
:welcome: ! Just be careful. PetsMart is going to suggest things you don't want to use...like the little round or tape thermometers, wood 1/2 log hides, etc. The caresheet here is a great read.

Glad to have U on the site! And ......:salute: Here's hoping and praying you and your unit ALL come home SAFELY!!!!!!

THANKS FOR ALL YOU'RE DOING!:salute: :salute: :salute:

    Re: Introducing myself
yea, I already know I have more experience with reptilia, than most pet store personnel, exspecially the big chain stores(i.e. petsmart, petco.) That is really good advice tho. Most people rely on there insite more than researching it them selves. Thanks:D
