Copperhead?
Today while cleaning out my friends horses stall I raked up a little snake. So I stuck it in a empty water tub and I was shocked at what was staring back at me! I got my friend and she screamed, and dragged me away from the tub and told me it was a Copperhead and I was freaking lucky it didn't bite me. While she was off looking for something to... I guess kill it with, I slowly took the tub out to the woods and tipped it over and left the little one to find it's way out. I then went back in the stall and poked around to see if there were any others. Not that I could see at least. But yeah that was my excitment for the day!
Soooo was it a baby Copperhead?

Re: Copperhead?
Looks it to me!! I have heard stories of little kids having babies in their pockets and they didn't bite. Not saying that they wouldn't, but just be careful! Good save!!!

Re: Copperhead?
that is a pretty lil copper. i just love them snakes, but i wouldn't go picking them up. you were lucky.

Re: Copperhead?
This little one didn't "S" up at all, just was crusing and looking around the tub. I had never deen a real one up close and person like that so I didn't know if it was one or not. I just knew it wasn't our normal rat snakes we see around there! I guess I gave it a rude awakening after it had been hiding down in the warm/yucky horse stall bedding.

I've heard they will "inflate" their neck to look big and bag, if that doesn't work they will "play dead", if that diesn't work then they will probably hiss and strike. I read somewhere thay they hardly ever bit though.

Re: Copperhead?
Their tails start out that bright yellow/green when they are babies, but fade with maturity. I have a dim memory that it's supposed to look like a worm and lure in prey, but I may be talking out my butt too.
They are cute little things, and seem to be very reluctant to bite. The ones I've encountered have tried every avenue of escape first, and only struck defensively.

Re: Copperhead?
Oh, I know the chances of a hognose bite is REALLY slim, but I'm paranoid about possible allergies I don't know about. I've never even been stung by a bee (bees like me I guess!) or anything and for all I know I could be terribly allergic. I'm just paranoid. ;) I don't know and don't wanna find out, lol!

Re: Copperhead?
From what ive heard, hog's have to really chew on you for a little while to put any venom in ya, so more than likely a quick defensive snap probably wouldnt do anything at all.

Re: Copperhead?
I cant have hoggies :( I have bad allergies and the chances of me being allergic are great. think about this, i cant have green tree frogs because the slime coat they make gives me a nasty rash...
