'05 Normal Females

I posted up before about my female ball pythons, unfortunately with no luck so I thought I'd try again.

I dont' want to, but I must find a home for them. I have two female (I was told) ball pythons from an April '05 captive bred clutch (purchased from John Berry Reptiles at the Tampa show at the fairgrounds) that I need to find good homes for. One of them I rescued from a friend of mine who could no longer care for her. Unfortunately it is believed she's got a spinal deformation, and because of this she should under no circumstances be used for breeding. Despite that, they are both eating f/t mice like champs. Last time I weighed them they were right around 600 grams each. I'm asking $125 for the female in good health. However, the price is negotiable as I'm more concerned with finding them good homes... not making a profit. As for the rescue, she is up for adoption at no charge.

I live in the Tampa area and am willing to drive... within reasonable distance. I'd prefer not to ship. If interested, PM me or post up.

If you do decide to ship them it takes a minimum of a month to be certified thru FEDEX to be able to ship reptiles.I am not sure if you allready knew this or not.

Are there any other (reputable) companies that will ship reptiles?

You should be able to ship by air cargo, I've successfully shipped snakes by air cargo before with no problems, and no certification needed (maybe things work different in the U.S., I dont know).... and for what its worth, I would only ship by air cargo anyways, no couriers for me ;)......shipping live animals is not the big problem task that alot of people make it out to be ;)

As far as i know no one ships reptiles unless you have certification allready thru them.Some might slip a shipment thru and when they discover a package with reptiles in them they confiscate the package.Do not even think about shipping snakes thru the USPS as it is a federal FELONY! I am not trying to stop you from selling your snake,just giving you info that you should know about.;)

Im not talking about USPS or any kind of postal service LOL Im talking about shipping air cargo through registered airlines, theres nothing illegal, or nothing "slipping through", and you dont need any sort of certification, at least this is how it works in Canada.... you call and make a reservation to ship a live reptile with your local airport's cargo area, then you take your snake to the airport a couple hours before the pre-arranged departure time, each snake is taken out, and inspected at the airport, by the cargo personnel, to verify it is what you say it is, then the box is taped using the official airline packing tape, then they place a sticker on it saying that it is a snake, and that it has been inspected by a cargo official...no funny business at all ;) and for what its worth, in Canada... UPS, FEDEX, or any other major courier company WILL NOT legally ship any live animal of any sort, there is no certification process here, they just dont do it...maybe Adam can chime in on how air cargo works in th U.S....EDIT: I should also add, that the boxes I use for shipping are specially designed for this purpose, they come clearly marked in bright red lettering "Live harmless reptiles" if anyone would like the link to where these can be purchased, I would be happy to oblige

I worked with DHL and they dont seem to have a problem with harless reptiles at all. but that was a few months back though. so I dont know how it is now.

I actualy got a snake through UPS too. but I doubt they knew it was a live animal.

I was not saying that info about USPS for you, it was to let the person who started this thread know about it :) .Now i know for a fact that no one takes the reptiles out at the airport for inspection.The airlines here have enough to worry about.Now that is weird that the major couriers point blank refuse to ship reptiles in Canada:eek: .

Dhl will only ship reptiles if the shipper goes thru "unishippers".Sometimes they totaly refuse to ship anything.Some of the people who were approved to ship thru UPS before they changed there rules were allowed to continue as they were "grandfathered claused" in.Some people do infact slip some packages thru and when caught they will regret it.They conficate your package and can prosecute you if they choose to.

Joe, thanks for the input, Im interested in how things vary from country to country...I find it weird though that they dont inspect at the airport though.. so that means, you can just ship anything, tell them what it is, and they just take your word for it?...and its not just reptiles that the couriers wont touch up here, its live animals period! I have to ship all my tropical fish( I breed and sell large american cichlids, Red Devils, Midas, Red Terrors, Vieja's, Flowerhorns and more) through air cargo as well, which really sucks, because not alot of people are willing to pay more for shipping, than the cost of the fish itself

See majority of the airlines do not like the idea of having reptiles on there planes.So couriers like fedex,ups and dhl are the ones "shipping" these boxes they are responsible for these shipments not the airlines.Now for Fedex(who i use) i had to sign a waiver that if anything happened to my reptiles i ship thru them i could not file a claim for my loss.Now i am not sure if anyone scans(kinda x- ray like) the boxes to find out if its really a animal in their or not.Beleive me the couriers make some major money shipping reptiles for us;) .The cheapest i have been charged was $45 and this was just one state over(Indiana) i live in Illinois.

It IS NOT a federal felony to ship reptiles through USPS, it is illegal, but not quite to that extent. I have shipped air cargo, it is like $60 and they take reptiles that way. Or you can go to a pet shop that you know of and see if they will ship them through fedex for you. Hm... if you could venture off of 75 a bit I could meet you and take one or both.

If your willing to drive to Texas!! Is there anyone around you that is Fedex certified ? Maybe you could ship through them?
