I stole this pastel at the tampa show...
GOT MY PASTEL FINALLY! I went to every vender at the tampa show and simply asked around for the best price they could give me on a male pastel. I finally found someone who hadn't been selling much at the show who had a male graziani line? (spelling?) He had $200 on it ($250 beggining of show) and told me he could knock another $50 off. If he was that desperate to knock $50 off I probably could have gotten it a lil' cheaper but I don't care I had to buy it right then. My girlfriend hates my other ball python's but has already named it, and begs me to take it out for her to hold. For the record he's about a year old as well...For pictures go to:

Yeah, I took the picture on my camera phone so the resolution quality was bad. The picture itself wasn't top notch but I also just wanted to put some kind of pic of the snake on my myspace page. Couldn't help it...I'll have better pics soon!

Ya I've got my pastel in a 20 long. The other 2 females (normals) are in a 55 gallon until I get another couple 20 longs from a friend for $20 each with the screen's and lock's. I'm going to keep the 55 tho...Probably put a red tail in it when i get one of those. My friend has baby's I can have one of his for $50

Thats not my mission. I just didn't have much more than that and i need to eat the rest of the pay period and buy gas. I just paid my rent, electric and car insurance and I'm not rich as it is. I was just happy I was able to get the snake at the price I did. Besides he was the one that was quick to knock off $50 I was hoping for maybe $10 off or something...Besides I wouldn't have been able to buy anything more than $200 as it was being that i'm as broke as I am at the moment. I just wanted to bring a snake home thats all. Don't hate on me for asking what he could do on it.

i think we are sensitive considering what's happening in another thread about the "wallmart" mentality with selling snakes. :( sorry to step on your toes.

i just reread you thread and if you are pretty broke... then why buy another snake when the two you have need new housing? would it be better to get proper care/housing for them first before adding another 'mouth-to-feed' into the mix?

Gee Aleesha and ECLARK, and I was thinking, "WOW- awesome snake..and CONGRATS!, but you have two female bp's living together in a 55 gallon.. you purchased another snake, and are waiting for separate cages for those females..gee, shouldn't ya have got the cages first and got what you already have set up RIGHT?"

Brings me to me next thought- "how are you housing this new jewel?"

I'm going to get the 20 longs from my friend sometime this week. I'll have the money today or tomorrow from a friend who owes me. As far as the care is concerned they are more than taken care of. I'll have them in they're own setups today or tomorrow. :)

i just want to share this... cause this is how i am IRL. and since you don't all know me IRL... well, here i go... on another rant LOL

when i ask for deals (cause ya i do) and i feel the deal is better than what i hoped to get... then i pay what i planned on paying. often the breeder or store owner/employee etc will say... "i can do that for $150" and i respond "how's $180?" they laugh and are always smiling when i hand them $180 and leave with my new "insert purchase here"

it's all about integrity and good-karma - there's nothing wrong with saying "hey i was hoping for $10 off... i'll happily pay $190. wouldn't that have made the breeder smile... and think of the wonderful memories he/she would have of you. :D makes me smile just thinking about the 'gift of joy' you could have chosen to give them. :D

    okay, i'm done ranting LOL

and aleesha I provide more than kick butt quality for my snakes. I've only had the other two females for a couple of weeks. 2 week's shouldn't make a life's difference. They eat everytime without hesitation and have no signs of stress.

LIke I said everyone will have they're own tank in a day or two. So I don't find a problem with they're care since its only been such a short amount of time. And as far as buying for quality...I would have paid whatever the original price was without hesitation for the snake if I had more money to work with.

I totally agree with you aleesha on the integrity and karma part. Believe me I do. I just acted on immediate instinct which was "give the guy the money and thank him like a b*stard! I have his contact info and I plan on writing a nice e-mail to the man. and Since he already has good prices/animals I will most likely end up buying from him again. And bargaining won't be an issue because my next purchase I will budget 4.

well you know i have to respond to this... since you used my name and all LOL

when you bring a new snake home it's a VERY stressful time for them. they are in a whole new place, new smells and even different humidity and temps... this is why it's recommended that you don't handle them for a week and don't bother them at all. just go in quick to change their water and clean up any feces and other than that... leave them alone.

so... during this most stressful time you've added another snake which equals competition. so not only is your two snakes dealing with the stress of moving but now they are also dealing with the competition of who's most dominant.

AND - in another couple of days you are going to introduce more stress by moving them to another enclosure and they are going to go through all the new-home stresses again.

so... please don't claim to give kick butt quality to your snakes... perhaps you can claim that in the future but today... nope, you sure can't! :(

Sure I can...they may be stressed for short while but they will be fine. Geez, I am providing kick butt care for them because I am doing whats right for them. Giving them their own enclosure. The pastel was never put in with the 2 females...They are getting they're own enclosure. Isn't that whats right? They are getting fed every 5-6 days. They have a healthy and clean enviorment. There's nothing wrong with what I'm doing. I've come on here and gotten great information from many different people. And thanks to everyone who has contributed their two cents. But for the life of god, I'm taking care of them. They will be fine. Worst case scenario they stop eating for a short while so what. They will continue to feed. They will acclimate to their enviorment and everyone will be happy.

No I wouldn't necesarily say that...I just don't see the reason for an arguement over this. THese snakes live to be 20-30 years. What would the major life threatening problem be for these snakes to be if at all stressed by going to seperate enclosures when that is what they need. the pastel has been in its own since I got it the 2 females have been together for the past 2 weeks. They're getting they're own in a day or two. I'm doing the right thing regardless...

My definition for " kick butt care" is doing whats right for them no matter WHAT. If I have to clean out a tub or something, i pull out a seperate tub to put one in. Your mentality on the consequences is not at the place it should be. A "Worst case scenario" shouldn't happen if you are providing "kick butt care".

This sounds like an impulse buy to me...

Alright folks...I think that's enough picking on others. We all make impulse buys, at least occassionally. We all get excited about better-than-expected deals. And we're always grateful when we hear that snakes housed together are getting their own homes....there's really no reason to keep being so critical.

I'll be happy to put up pictures of his setup tomorrow as well as the new setups for my other 2 ball's (normal females). The females should be in they're new setups tonight as I pick them up. Just have to go pickup the tanks tonight. THey will be housed in 20 longs. 1 in each. So each snake will be in a 20long. which should be fine for the next year. I'm currently checking out rack setup's at the moment due to my increasing collection.

i think it alright you got your pastel for a steal, if the guy couldnt afford to sell it at that price then he would not of sold it to you. everyone has been excited about a good bargain at least once or twice -(as in my case i always try to get a good deal without taking avantage of the situation) . as for housing them im glad to hear they will all be in there new homes and properly taken care of, hopefully as soon as possible. i would really like to see pictures when they are settled in.

So last night i had a friend come over who is quite the avid herper (15 redtail's, 5 burmese's, 2 ball python's and 2 retic's) He was in awe of my pastel. While holding it he popped it and both looked for hemipenes but there were none...I have been told that popping is only an accurate measure for male or female within a few weeks of hatching...Well I am excited about my purchase as it is but If I ended up getting an 05' Female for the price I paid holy S***! How much would the average price for one be?
I am getting it probed today to find out for sure.

    *****For the record*****
I purchased the snake from Bob Hammond (www.bobhammondreptiles.com)
    I did e-mail him a letter thanking him from the bottom of my heart for helping me fulfill my dream of owning a morph and at the price he gave it to me. He answered back and here is what he had to say;

Hey, Steven, we just got back and settled in from the show. I'm very glad you like the pastel. It was a nice one. It made the sell very worth while to me knowing someone got it that really appreciated the deal. I'm not offended at all about the deal. I've done the same thing myself and have offended people, but it never hurts to ask. We are in the middle of paving our driveway now and were doing slow at the show. So it also helped me out a lot too. So we both did good. Good luck with him and i hope you produce with him. Thanks Bob

*No, thank you Bob for helping a dream come true!
