Repti Temp 500R Thermostat - simple question
I plan on purchasing this thermostat and I read that it can control duel heating elements. I want it to control 2 UTH's under the same tub, one for cool side and one for warm side since I'm having problems getting the cool side up. My question is does it control both with different temperatures or is it meant to control maybe 2 identical warm spots for 2 different tubs at the same temp?
May sound dumb but I've always used a dimmer and want to know for sure before I click "purchase".

It only controls one temp

Do your self a HUGE favor, go to The Home Depot, or a store like that in your area and purchase a dimmer switch, the kind that has a cord and a plug, you plu your heating device into it and then plug it into the wall....exactly the same as the 500R but for a hell of alot cheaper. I dont know who originally said to use this...but I want to kiss them. We set up our first tank with pet store everything, then learned of this 3 dollar dimmer switch and intead of a pet store temp/humidity gauge to use the 12 dollar walmart indoor outdoor reader. This site has saved me butt loads. Since it can only control one thing (although I have plugged a under tank heater and CHE into it and it worked fine...although not reccomended.) save yourself the cash and go get the dimmer switch....thats an order!

What are your temps on the cool side? Do you have them in a glass tank?

My cool side temps go from 73-76 throughout the day. I'm using a sterlite tub with newspaper substrate.

oic...well great then I know what to look foward to when I move all my guys into tubs soon. After I finally got everyone glass tanks perfect....sheesh.
I personally dont think saying "&*^@!" is cursing...being that this isnt found in the dictionary....or something you can even pronounce...who knows.

Nah, your temps will probably level out perfect. I think I'm only capable of screwing these things up.
I don't see how it's cursing either -- pretty much like a censor on basic cable. ;)

Re: Repti Temp 500R Thermostat - simple question
are you using two small UTH or a big one and a small one??? I would suggest getting a larger UTH or move it (the warm side) a little more to the middle. Do you have the tub on a carpet or hard floor (tile, wood etc?) hard floors are cooler than lets say a carpet, which could be causing some problems.

Exactly, and being that on basic cable I have heard every word but the f-word...I think were doing pretty good with the %$^!!!.
Oh trust me, I'm sure we will be right along with you freezing our snakes to death or boiling them alive lol. Trial and error my friend, I'm sure with some tinkering it will all work out. Now get to work GOD ^*&% IT!!! Although on t.v and radio they make you bleep the god but leave in the d-word, because I personally would be ticked if my child came up to me and said "god" but the d-word....thats what I like to hear from children lol.:carrot:

I see what you mean about trouble maintaining the cool side temps.
Ever thought about getting two thermostats? Dimmers are annoying because if your room temperature changes, so does the heat outputted from the mat. Thermostats are especially good if you're not around to monitor them, i.e., on vacation. You wouldn't want to come home and find out that it had been an extremely cold week at your house or something and your warm side's at 85 and cool side's at 70!

I have just one 10gal. UTH and plan on buying a 5gal. for the cool side just to give it a boost. The tub is sitting on a wooden desk.

:D Also seen Janet Jacksons breast on basic cable...
Trial and error can be very frustrating. I guess I'll pick up a small UTH and another dimmer tomorrow and I bet it will work out pretty well....but thats only the trial part and I'm sure it will be followed with a damn error
Damnit. ;)

Yea, I haven't had my one dimmer very long and sort of figured out when the temp is going to change on it. Before I go to bed, I'll turn it up a tad because I know it's going to drop off in the night, and then later on close to afternoon I'll turn it down again because it's going to get warmer. Don't know what I'd do if I was to be away from home for a day or so...getting 2 thermos is the lingering possibility.

Wouldn't be surprised if you seen Pam Anderson's breast on the Disney Channel. She doesn't seem to hide them much...not that I'm complaining. ;)
