Separate them...absolutely. They should never have been put together in the first place.

You should definately seperate them. No good ever comes out of keeping two snakes together.

-If one poos, and it's runny, how are you going to know who did it?

-Even though it isn't something that happens much, the bigger one could eat the smaller one.

-Stress. Ball pythons get stressed from being housed together and will either compete for a spot, or compete for heat.

Besides, you should have two hides a snake, so why only two for two snakes?

You could also use the search function to troll for some advice on this subject that's already been posted.

Did you look it up HERE? Cause I really don't remember a post on this forum where housing two or more snakes was ever a good idea.

???? If the breeder is advocating keeping them together, I'd question the integrity of their being hets. But that's just MOI.

Re: help....want to keep 2 females together?
the pair came from brian sharp and have paperwork and 2 photo's, looks pretty legit . this kid whom i bought the pair works at a reptile place, he said to me that i could keep the females together, he said that he had a rack system but one person who he trades snakes with keeps some females together... i wasnt really sure so i googled it and found both arguments that you can keep them together and that you couldnt. so i posted to you good people of bp.net and by the responces i i dont think its a good idea to keep them together..i do hope they prove out, but ive done business with this kid before with my some of my coral reef tanks, and he is pretty credible. but im not worried he has a few morphs, yellow bellies, pastels, different coral snakes, etc.
    thanks again for yer advice!

Good luck with this...trust me its a bad idea to house them together. I recieved 2 BPs that were housed together for 2 years! (they lady said "they really like each other, there always together....not realizing that the one was dominating the other) We got them home, got them home and needless to say the one would not eat for us and was always mad and biting...until we got them seperated....now there both as sweet as can be!

    Hi everyone,

I just joined, and this is a topic I've been wondering about. I have two BP that are from the same brood, and have been together since birth. They are kept in a 4'x2'x2' home made enclosure. They will be 4 years old this October. I have never had any problems with the cohabitation. I seperate them to eat, but other than that they seem to be fine. They eat very well (when the temprature is right), and if it wasn't for the absence of a frontal lobe, I would say they are very devoted to each other. I am considering breeding them, and that is why I am here, to find out more about the process. Their parents were naturals, and these two were the only ones to survive out of a clutch of 5 eggs. This is just my experience, and I am interested in any feedback.

    Thanks

P.S. I think they are both female. I know tail shape is not the best way to judge, but they look exactly like their mom.

It does not matter at all what they look like. You have to get them probed or popped to sex them ;)

How do you know they are "devoted to eachother?"

First off, you should have the two snakes sexed by an experienced herper or vet. Resemblance to the mother is not a way to determine sex, and neither is the shape of the tail.

Secondly, it's pretty standard that 1 snake = 1 cage. There's just no real benefit for the snakes to be kept together.

If you are interested in breeding then I'd suggest you have your animals properly sexed, and then start researching. There's a great search function that and you can find a ton of great info. If you have a more specific question feel free to ask.

I know that they aren't "devoted" to each other. That would requier about 40 million years of brain evolution. They are just pretty much always together, and I can't imagen that their need for heat is always exactly the same. I have looked around a little, and where I live if it doesn't weigh 1800 pounds and eat hay, its not easy to find a vet. If anyone could recommend someone in the Raleigh/Durham area, I would be greatful.

    Thanks again.

I to thought mine were "happy" UNTIL I watched them for several days and noticed that 1 was following the other around the tank...obvioulsy dominating her..being that snakes arent like lobsters who mate for life and die together this rules out the "there in love" or "they like each other" theory.
Turns out the one I thought was a girl was infact a dude and the one I thought was a dude was in fact female.....be careful with housing them together....for the health of your snake seperate them...I hate hearing I can afford it..go to Target and get a Sterilite 74 qt for $15.99 and thats it! If you want them to live long heathly lives this is what you need to do as a responsible owner.

Its not that they both need heat, there DOMINATING each other, or atleast one is over the other.

always together sounds like one is dominating the other. This can stress out the snake being dominated and possibly the dominating snake. This is all unneccesary stress that can be fixed with seperate enclosures.

www.arav.org shows lots of Reptile vets, just find your area.

Raleigh is a popular part of NC, so it shouldn't be hard to find a vet ;)

Thanks, the web site will be very helpful. I guess I will seperate them, but if I couldn't tell that one was being dominated, I don't think I'll know if they are pining for the others company. I certainly can spot dominating behavior in my other animals (dogs, hamsters, kids), but it never occured to me that it was going on with them. Ah well. I am always willing to learn.

    Thanks again.

No problem, I to didnt "see it" until it was explained....and then learned that they dont stick together in the wild either..explained alot though. Again good luck, let us know how they do.
