If you do it right, it only takes one ... but whether or not a female becomes "gravid" has little to do with the number of "locks" and everything to do with follicular development. When her follicles are ready, if she has been bred well ... she'll become gravid. ;)

Re: boy oh boy!
Is there any way to tell if she has become gravid after a lock up? Why keep trying... just to make sure?

Re: boy oh boy!

Like I said ... it has nothing to due with the "locks" and everything to do with follicular development ... if the female isn't developing follicles, they can lock 9000 times and you won't get eggs ... but if the copulation occurs are the proper point during follicular development, you only need one "lock".
Keep going ... it takes females months for a full cycle of follicular development ... she'll let you know when she's done.

Re: boy oh boy!
How will I know if she has developed the follicles? How will I know if an attempt to get a lock up will be worth it?
-
Re: boy oh boy!
you must make a pilgrimage to an ancient breeders kingdom and "learn the way". this will take many moons and when you can count them blindfolded, you are ready!

Cycle your temps and your lights ... pair your animals together giving the male plenty of rest between breedings ... in the spring, stop the cycling of lights and temps and wait ... if it worked, you'll get eggs ... if it didn't there's always next year.
It's not like making popcorn, you don't just put them together and BAM! ... It's called a breeding "SEASON" because it takes longer than a couple weeks. ;)

Re: boy oh boy!
Good point Adam, Very important that your breeders are cycled properly for breeding. ball pythons will breed all year long, but you will rarely get any fertile eggs if you dont cycle them properly. :)

Re: boy oh boy!
Ok that helps. Now I have an issue with lights... there are none? All of my snakes are in temps. And when you say cycle the temps do you mean the night time drop?
