...an albino x blackback.....but since there is no black on albinos....you would get an albino with no pattern on its dorsal area....

Re: Black Backs

Re: Black Backs
Blackback isn't "proven" as of yet, but it is one of those dinker type projects that always seem to produce interesting things here and there.
-
Re: Black Backs
I thought I read somewhere that they were a visible het for something. Not all black backs, but that the hets for a certain trait all had black backs, deeming them genetic.
Here's the link at RDR, the second paragraph.

Re: Black Backs
Thanks for getting back to me elevatethis. It doesn't seem to me like it is a genetic thing, or atleast proven yet, especially because you can find random individuals with less vertebral marking than others, but all seem to have one or two blotches that covers part of the back.

Yeah, the whole het Red Axanthic thing, I'm not very familiar with that whole thing, but I do know that as some het red's are black back to some degree, not all blackback are het red's. Someone correct me if I'm wrong....

Re: Black Backs
Yeah that's what I was saying.

Re: Black Backs
Black backs are a proven recessive genetic trait.

Re: Black Backs

Re: Black Backs
Robin, is there really a true black back?
You have a goog looking bunch of bps there. :)
Samuel, great looking snake there.
-
Re: Black Backs
Aren't the true black backs the ones from the line of het red axanthics that TSK sold Cory Woods? Thats at least what I'm assuming from ralph's blurb about them on his site...
Quote:
Het Red Axanthics are the proven line of "Black Backs" needed to produce the homozygous "Red Axanthic" ( The Super )

Re: Black Backs
No, the black back type of normal bp was around long before the red axanthics.
-
Re: Black Backs
That's true...I was referring to the "true line" that Ralph was talking about in a link earlier in this thread.
Those classic african hatched black backed ball pythons that you are talking about are among the non-genetic blackback's, right?

Poor choice of words. What I meant by "true" black backs are those that have no dorsal patterning at all on their backs (or at least less than mine do).
Thank you! I do love my bebes!!!! LOL
