At Daytona, it was $5.00 to have a 4' gator sit on your lap and get your picture taken. His mouth was taped shut and the "wrangler" was right there if he decided to squirm. But he was quite calm and very used to the handling.


I imagine the same with that bigger one there....his mouth is taped shut (it appears to be, and I'd be very surprised if it wasn't) and it has probably logged hundreds of hours of such photo sessions.

No Tape At All. We Talked To The Handler. The Gator Has Been His Pet For Over 30 Years. And Has Been Doing Shows Sience It Was A Hatchling. It Was Verry Hard For Me To Sit There And Watch Because You Just Keep Thinking That Any Second It Would Spring Into Life. But It Didnt. The Handler Would Just Walk Up And Rub His Head And Kiss His Nose. The Gator Seemed To Almost Enjoy It.

I don't know. If it is anything like how Bubba was, it would be pretty docile.

Bubba used to allow people to ride his back, pet him, get pictures taken with him, and he never had his mouth taped. He was even the ring bearer in a wedding once before he passed away.

Wow....yeah, I'd be pretty nervous around a gator like that with no tape. But ya know...the owner knows him so well...so the chances of nothing bad happening are pretty darned good. Let's just hope the odds don't turn against him one day. :rolleyes:

Yes, the gator was real and seemed quite content to just sit and be adored. His handler rescued him 35 years ago and uses him for educational shows.

The show was cool. =) While I took my camera, I didn't take any pictures as I hate asking if I can take pictures. =P

Best thing I saw - a pair of blue tree monitors. They were drop dead GORGEOUS! After that, I'd say the boas at Basically Boas and the stunning boas Gus at Rio Bravo brought with him. =)

Ooh and pieds...yum! OOooh and there were TONS of albino coastal and whitewater rosy boas! *whine*

We bought a larger cage and some cage accessories for Cleo - we'll get pictures up when we've got it set up all the way. =)

oh i absolutely fell in love with those blue tree monitors as well!!!

Gus had the most beautiful pure locale boas I have ever seen. His pictures on RioBravoReptiles do no justice.

The gator was most definitely real. No tape, just one docile gator. he was really a great looking creature.

On a side note, I think its pretty pathetic not ONE of us including myself was able to arrange some sort of BP.net meeting/gathering just to say hello. I looked for you guys, but I had no idea what you looked like. :D

Oh well, we have to make a better plan when Pomona comes around!

i know slithers. i wish we could of gotten together. but by the time i thought about it it was friady night and that is way to late to orginize something.

Give me a couple bucks and I'll take you out on the air boat to see a gator. My dads the only idiot who gets down there and grabs them. That explains why my daughter hasnt spent the night over there yet.

Slithers, I guess us east coasters will have to show you west coasters how to mingle and meet one another at a reptile show. hahaha

and I did meet up with a girl from another site.

I just wanted to throw in that the gator in those pics was named Albert :D me and my best friend took pics with him, and my friend even got a video of him walking towards this little kid that was standing in front of the stage and he got really close to the edge, and the kid was all excited haha. it was pretty crazy, and he was very alive
