    New @ this still!! Help
Ok i have had my BP for a week now. I have made a few changes in her substrait, hides and temp to give her more security and comfort. I have only held her a few times and am not really sure if she is completely settled yet.

She ate with no problems Sunday and hasn't deficated as of yet.:) I have changed out her water about every other day..seems she hasn't touched it...her temps are @ 90* and 55-65% hum.

When i move her hide(s)... which is also her water bowl...she is very uncomfortable...can see by her breathing patterns.... When would be the best time to start handeling her?? I don't feel that i should wait too long, but i also want her to feel secure and trust me  ?? Please offer any suggestions.

Also, thanks again for all the previous help with the temps and humidity.

Try and handle in the evening and move slow let your new buddy explore at his/her pace. Keep your handleing to a few minutes at first and the go from there. Your young snake views you as a predator and so naturaly is going to get nervous when you uncover her you basicly trigger the "Oh my God its a huge freaking Predator" responce. Just give it time and little at a time. hope this helps.

It really takes time for a bp to feel settled and secure in their new home. You've only had her for a week, and in that week you've been messing around, changing her environment and handling her at some point. I'm not saying that tweaking her environment was wrong....you want to do what ya gotta do to make it just right. However...now that it's finally all set...you need to just leave her alone for at least a full week. Don't mess with her tub or anything, except provide fresh water if she needs it.

And then you start gradually letting her get used to your presence with brief handling sessions. What you're trying to do is get her to realize that you're not a predator, but just a weird aspect of her environment that picks her up and moves her around sometimes, but never hurts her. Patience and gentle persistence will win the day. :)

Hehe....very glad to be of help!

I've been studying and mooning over BP's for years....but wasn't able to actually get my first one until this past March. Due to a snake-reluctant spouse and a move-all-the-time lifestyle...building the kind of collection I dream of is many years in the future.

That's so funny you mentioned that. I also have a "snake-reluctant" spouse. We've been married 7 years now and I just finally got him to agree to let me have one. Ultimately, it was the notion that the snake could be fed frozen thawed and not live feed, that swayed him in my favor.

Oh how my spouse would sympathize - he has ALWAYS hated snakes (basically anything that doesn't have legs :confuzd: ) - now we have 3 of them and he drove me for a total of 6 hours to get our last boa :)

To the original poster - I'm guessing the lizard that doesn't trust you is a monitor ...? ;)

Yes, that would be the one. Lol We are improving our relations everyday. As long as she has her space and i keep to mine she is Ok with observing on her own terms. 3 months into it though. Wish me luck!! :fishslap:

Yes - I wish you luck - we both need it LOL

I seriously (temporarily I hope) damaged my relationship with my sav day before yesterday by dumping him in the bath for a little extra soaking for his shed - plus I wanted to give his viv a going over. I hadn't done it for a while as he now has his own tub in there so guess it stressed him out a bit. He refused to come out all day yesterday and just glared :( Oh well - learnt my lesson I'll buy him some nice super-large adult locusts today so perhaps we can start afresh
