The best thread in all the land!!
OK nathair has been here for about a month and i was looking at him for like almost a month before i got him and he still hasen't shed. I think if any he only shed once before. He is about three and a half months old. His belly went pink about two weeks ago and still nothing. Is there something wrong with him?????????
BTW i lied this tread kinda stinks, LOLOLOLOL
Re: The best thread in all the land!!
If his belly went pink you should be having a shed anytime soon. Just check and make sure it's not the beginnings of a burn. ;)
Don't worry about shedding too much. The timing just varies. Normally I notice the blue eyes a couple of days after the pink belly, but it can vary with the individual. It'll happen. :D

Ball pythons should not soak if provide the proper environment. What are your temperatures and how are you heating?

Two weeks after pink seems a bit long for a shed for such a young ball python. Has his belly been pink for 2 weeks straight or has it turned clear? How are you heating the enclosure and what is your humidity like?

Well he start soaking when I had him in the tank with poor humidity (so hard to keep it up!). He has been in his new tub for only about 2 days (60-70% hum, because of shed). He is still soaking. But right before I put him in I fed him an adult mouse... so he could be soaking to relieve the pressure correct? using a UTH.
Re: The best thread in all the land!!
I don't know if it's normal or not But my older male soaks at least once a week. Ive had him over 1 1/2 years. The 3 other ones won't go near their water unless they want a drink. I think they all are different.

How are you controlling the heat on the UTH? And where/how are you measuring the actual temprature it is putting out?

Im using a dimmer to control the heat and an acu-rite diggy to read left, right and hum.

Have you measured the temps on the floor directly over the UTH?
Re: The best thread in all the land!!
hmmm nope. Didn't think I would need to the probe is on about 4 layers of newspaper. Could it be that drastic of a change?

It most certainly can be. Without changing anything else, slide your probe under the paper. It sounds to me like your snake may have crawled under the paper and burned himself.
Re: The best thread in all the land!!
Since I put him in the tub he has spent the whole time either in the water bowl or his cool hide... But he has been soaking since he was in the tank... which had no chance of a belley burn with a heat lamp.
Re: The best thread in all the land!!
:confuzd: Just slide that probe under the paper and see what the true temperature of your UTH is. Its critical knowledge either way.

Will do as soon as I get home! Thanks for all of your help. If the temp is not what I expect I will be pming you with some questions.

It has been two weeks staight. In my vivaquarium it is 85-90 on the hot and sometimes 78-82 on the other. The colder temps were when i woke up in the middle of the night. The humidity goes from 53-55.

How are you heating the enclosure? Where are these temperatures taken? What are the temps on the heating element? Does the substrate stay damp or is it always dry? The more info that you provide the better....a pink belly for 2 weeks is not normal compared to any snakes I have kept.
Re: The best thread in all the land!!
Kilo...my snakes go under their newspaper(or any other substrate I put in the enclosure) all the time....so it is best to have the bottom of the enclosure in the acceptable heat range. Also, ball pythons will 'soak' if they feel unsecure in their enclosure...this is not actually soaking like one would usually think...more or less the snake is looking for a safe confined location....and the water bowl is the place that it picked. What type of hides do you have?

Ok so I should measure the heat of the bottom of the tub directly not through the newspaper. I have 2 small granite hides. I will take a couple photos tonight an pm them to you to take a look daniel. the only reason I don't think it is a burn is because I noticed the pinking before I moved him to a tub. He has only been in he tub 2 days.
Re: The best thread in all the land!!
Just to add to the wisdom of the cajin above have you looked him over good and I mean GOOOD for mites ? They will soak when there is a mite problem.
