    Hets not Hets?
Crazy question...but here is goes. So I have heard of a female holding sperm from one season to the next. Example being you breed a male pastel to a normal female in 2004 and then breed the same female to a male spider in 2005. The 2005 clutch hatches out some pastels and no spiders. So the female held to 2004 sperm from the pastel.

So what if you breed normal male to a normal female in 2004. Then breed an albino male to same normal female in 2005. The 2005 clutch hatches out with normal looking babies. What if the female held the sperm from the 2004 normale male breeding. What are the odds? Is this crazy???

Nope, not crazy at all ... That's why it's important to buy from breeders that know what they're doing. ;)

I think there is really know way of telling! Unless you breed them back to the Dad albino. You could probably selll the mof as possible hets. From what ive read females dont retain sperm that often...could be I have just skipped over the threads/pages. Hope it helps!! :cowboy:

Do you use a control system to your madness? I know your record keeping is fantastic just by the well planned and consistant feeding cards that came with my order!

Great, great question....that I'll add to....how long is possible sperm retention a problem? In other words, typically how long can a female store a male sperm? 1 year, 2 yrs, 3yrs back?

I was actually talking to Jesus Rivas about this, even though he works with anacondas he says they can retain sperm for several years, and still produce young.

That is really interesting, I have a female that I am going to breed to Blaze (Pastel), that was bred to a Yellow Ghost last year. She did not develop, so the breeder let her go because she is a mouse only girl.

So if she had a clutch with no pastels, I could be in the position of not knowing if the babies were normals (from a pastel/normal clutch with no pastels), or het yellow ghosts correct?

We try to alternate females from dominant genes to Recessive genes from one year to the next. i.e. If we bred a female to a Hypo one year, we will breed her to a dominant gene the following year. Also, when we are attempting to make Hets from Normal females, we like to use young, first time breeders. This helps to eliminate most of the confusion.

So gross and cool at the same time...cool because in the wild, the female bp's don't necessarily need to breed each season in order to get the species populated but eww, "sperm retention"... :puke2:

That sounds like a good idea. With that in mind I would definitely not want to breed this girl to anything recessive, my only real choice at this point would be to the Pastel.

    Thanks Tim....

What I plan to do to make sure that this doesn't happen is do a 1 to 1 Breed only one male to one female. Of course that will make me small time.
