My last addition!!! (until I buy a rack) Have Questions
I decided to goto a reptile place I have been hearing about lately (with no plans to buy anything) that is about 4 cities away. Well the owner had a nice collections of snakes from corns to boas. I walked into a particular room and this close to 4' Albino King Snake caught my eye! Its size told me is was sexually mature so I asked its sex and if I could hold it. It was a female and ready to breed. The asking price was $75... he told me if I bought it he would let it go for $60. He told me if I didn't buy it that he was going to take it off of the shelfs and breed it. I couldn't pass this deal up. A beautiful sexually matured female king snake for $60!?! Anyone else here that would pass that up? Anyway I was wondering how long I should let her get used to her new home before I begin handling!?! Tommorow I will get my camera from work and take pics of her and my male albino corn I picked up yesterday.

    Thanks,

Not trying to be rude here, but it sounds like you are getting in way over your head with all these snakes.

Once again, wait a week before feeding without handling

Then, if she eats, you can hold her two days after she eats

Not to be rude here, but I didn't ask anything about feeding. And I don't believe Im over my head at all. I can handle taking any of them to the vet, I can handle feeding them all and I have housing for each and every one that has perfect temps and hum per species. So what makes you say that? I think the fact I'm willing to listen and learn tells you they are being brought into a good home.

Well, if you beleive you're ready, then it sounds like every thing is ok! :)

Now, for the feeding. You want to make sure she is eating before handling. You asked when should you handle her and I said after she eats.

Oh ok then that makes sense. Thanks for the advice man! I know about the feeding and handling rules. But most of my obtained knowledge is about ball pythons. I wanted to ask knowing that kings and corns are the 2 top beginner snake I just thought it might be sooner that handling can begin.

Nope, all snakes should be settled for a week before feeding, then after feeding, you handle them.

:gj: Congrats on your new albino Kingsnake!

For some reason they look like bologna and mustard to me :P

Congrats! I'm assuming california king? I have three of the buggers (a normal, an albino, and an albino stripe) and I love them.

They always eat and are sometimes crabby (two of mine are anyway.)

Hehe definitely too bad man! I want to find someone close to me with a male albino king (or another morph other than normal) that I don't have to purchase and house to breed with :). Hmm how long does it take to become Fedex certified for reptile shipping. If not that long I will mail her to you lol for breeding! We split the babies?

Shelby! I didn't even see your post... 3 of them! That's awesome! Mine seemed perfectly ok and docile when I first held her. brought her home put her in her new home... still seemed ok. then I first time I went back to check on her and touched the screen top she struck about 5 times! Since then I have check on her about 5 times and she hasn't stuck again. Kind of odd?

Yeah they can be little nippers. The one I've had since a baby is the most docile, the other two I bought as adults, and they will bite, especially the female.

I'm breeding my adult pair this year.

It takes about a month or so to get fedex certified.I will see what happens as i might find him a couple girls or you never know lol.You can read up on getting certified for fedex as they have a sticky here i think in the general section.

Cool Cool. I also know a of a guy about 17 years old whos parents breed everything under the sun! I'm going to leave my number with the store and ask them to give it to him the next time he comes in. As for fedex certified I'm going to begin to look into it and probably attempt to obtain certification. I have 6 pets (not including the rats) and they will all need mates = a lot of breeding. So fedex cert could be a smart move. :P

As far as the FEDEX certification is concerned you will need it when and if you start selling reptiles. You can not allow someone to ship reptiles to you under your account. They have to be certified also in order to ship thru fedex. If you allow someone to use your account even if they are shipping to you they can pull your account.
