Long-haired herpers UNITE!!!
I know you're out there...
What's your hairtype? Care routine? Etc?
Let's touch base!!!
I'm a 1b/m/ii, which basically means straight with a bit of body, medium texture, medium thickness.
I go all organic on shampoo & conditioner (special occasions notwithstanding), henna for color, seamless brushes & combs, and damage-free hairtoys.
How about the rest of you?
K~

You forgot the HOTT at the end!!

Re: Long-haired herpers UNITE!!!
Flat top here. Only way to go!!! No fuss, No mess!!
-
Re: Long-haired herpers UNITE!!!
Well.. let's see. I've got straight hair with a slight wave if I let it dry without combing.. medium thickness auburn and it's almost to my lower back now.
I like using Nature's Gate shampoos/conditioners. And I like to do a deep oil treatment on my hair at least once a week, preferably twice.
I have a Mason Pearson nylon/boar bristle brush and a hand carved ox horn comb that I use and I love putting my hair in fancy braids and whatnot. Right now I have a herringbone braid.

Re: Long-haired herpers UNITE!!!
Well mine isn't very long right now, I'm growing it back out. It has gotten long enough that I have to treat it like a spoiled princess, though.
I use Pantene Daily Moisture shampoo and conditioner daily. Once a week I use a deep moisturizer with the magic properties of Volcanic Ash. I'm not sure what the magic is, but it does make my hair feel like silk :)
For color, Loreal's Intense Dark Red. It lasts longer than any other red I've tried.
Oh, and I generally keep it up in a clamp pony.

Re: Long-haired herpers UNITE!!!
I have long blondish hair, that is some what wavy and I use all Hemp products. Im alergic to normal shampoos. as for the true color I'm an Auburn (blonde, brown and red hairs) and the color Im useing is a pro die job from Sonoita Strands in Sonoita AZ.

Re: Long-haired herpers UNITE!!!
I can talk hair all day! I have yet to measure mine; not sure. It goes past my waist. I swore by Pantene for years, but now I basically change shampoos often; staying with one thing too long makes me get an irritated scalp for some reason; without fail. I probably just haven't found the right one yet.. Currently I am using Aussie stuff but I plan no splurging and buying some Nexxus.
I use Clairol coloring products; I am way, way past overdue to dye; I prefer my hair to be a burgundy/dark red, not this weird shade of orangish-brown-who-knows. I always wash my hair at night, sleep on it (well, arrange it specifically around my pillow) and it's dry and fresh by morning; but in hot weather I just shower in the AM.
My honey has long hair too; I'd venture to say it approaches my hair's length, but his curls when dry (think Tom Araya of Slayer, a tad less poofy though.) So you can bet the tub/shower drains are always clogged in this household! Not to mention the dryer lint trapper thingie. We just got a brand new washer/dryer (LG, I'd highly recommend them) and already there's hair caught everywhere in it.. lol. There is nothing better to me than the smell of his hair. :)
I use Goodie brushes; nothing fancy, but No combs or picks; just a cushy brush. I go through them like candy because the bristly part breaks off in my hair.
My hair is pretty thick, likes to stay mainly straight and holds shape too good; I get "ponytail head" easily! I am ALLways twirling it in my fingers/hand too, sometimes tying complicated knots that only I can undo!
A piccy; not too sure what color you'd call it.
I am really open to suggestions that any of you may have as to getting rid of split ends, good products, etc.

Re: Long-haired herpers UNITE!!!
I have medium highlighted hair, that has a natural wave to it. I use products from The Body Shop, which sells all natural, non animal-tested stuff. I don't spend a lot of time getting ready in the morning, usually I just wash and go (let dry naturally) and maybe use some leave-in conditioner.

Re: Long-haired herpers UNITE!!!
I spend little extra time on mine, also. I just usually wear it down, or in a little bun thingie if I am working/cleaning/etc. Or what I call my "airhead ponytail" on the top of the back of my head.
-
Re: Long-haired herpers UNITE!!!
When I'm working and want my hair out of the way.. I love my hair sticks! So easy to put up a bun and it stays all day.
As for split ends.. a comb/pick is your friend. With a brush it's far too easy to tear strands which invite split ends. I always comb to detangle then brush to distribute oils. Come starting at the bottom and work your way up.. if you find a snag, don't yank through it, pull it apart with your fingers so you don't break any hairs.
Other than that trimming off split ends is the only way to get rid of them once they're there.

Re: Long-haired herpers UNITE!!!
I'm very simple. I use the aussie shampoo and miracle conditioner. Does wonders for my dry hair. Then...I just throw it up in a scrunchie...boring...

Soooooo easy!!! get yourself a pair of chopsticks or some blunt #2 pencils.
Practice pulling your hair back in a pony, and then twist (cw or ccw, whichever suits) until you can form a bun. Slip a stick/pencil close to your scalp, through bun, and close to your scalp again til it holds. It'll take some practice, but it's well worth the effort!
K!
-
Re: Long-haired herpers UNITE!!!
Yep.. you kind of make a 'stitch' with the hairsticks. Stick it straight down through the bun and pick up some hair from the scalp, then poke it out the other end... do the same with the second stick and.. voila!

Re: Long-haired herpers UNITE!!!
~little sigh~ Thinking about and discussing my hair is an exercise in depression. :rainon: But I'll follow this thread because my daughter has really pretty hair that is getting very long. Looking for tips on helping her learn to care for it.
-
Re: Long-haired herpers UNITE!!!
Ok...let's determine hairtypes, as follows:
FIRST CLASSIFIER - Your curliness (or lack thereof)
The straight ones
1a - stick straight
1b - straight but with a slight body wave, just enough to add some volume, doesn't look wavy
1c - straight with body wave and one or two visible S-waves (e.g. nape of neck or temples)
The wavy ones
2a - loose, stretched out S-waves throughout the hair
2b - shorter, more distinct S-waves (similar to waves from braiding damp hair)
2c - distinct S-waves and the odd spiral curl forming here and there
The curly ones
3a - big, loose spiral curls
3b - bouncy ringlets
3c - tight corkscrews
The really curly ones
4a - tightly coiled S-curls
4b - tightly coiled hair bending in sharp angles (Z-pattern)
SECOND CLASSIFIER - What (most of) your individual strands look like
F - Fine
Thin strands that sometimes are almost translucent when held up to the light. Shed strands can be hard to see even against a contrasting background. Similar to hair found on many people of Scandinavian descent.
You can also try rolling a strand between your thumb and index finger. Fine hair is difficult to feel or it feels like an ultra-fine strand of silk
M - Medium
Strands are neither fine nor coarse. Similar to hair found on many Caucasians.
You can also try rolling a strand between your thumb and index finger. Medium hair feels like a cotton thread. You can feel it, but it isn't stiff or rough. It is neither fine or coarse.
C - Coarse
Thick strands that where shed strands usually are easily identified against most backgrounds. Similar to hair found on many people of Asian or native American descent.
You can also try rolling a strand between your thumb and index finger. Coarse hair feels hard and wiry. As you roll it back and forth, you may actually hear it.
THIRD CLASSIFIER - Your overall volume of hair
Put your hair in a ponytail with as much hair as possible in it. Don't bother with the way it looks - the goal is to have most/all of your hair in there. If it means it sits smack dab on top of your head, put it there.
Measure the circumference of the ponytail. If you have bangs and/or you can't get all of your hair in there adjust according to how much of your hair you have measured.
i - thin (less than 2 inches/5 centimeters)
ii - normal (between 2-4 inches or 5-10 centimeters)
iii - thick (more than 4 inches/10 centimeters)
-
Re: Long-haired herpers UNITE!!!
Ok..
1c M and between ii and iii
-
Re: Long-haired herpers UNITE!!!
Thanks for the tips, ladies, I'll definitely give it a try. Plenty of chopsticks around here to use, haha. I always see the hairsticks at my favorite store, Sam Moon, and have always wanted to know how to use them so I could get myself a nice collection of them.
As for my hair type....hmmm!
It's definitely 1b/F, but the volume class is a bit trickier for me. I think it would measure as a i, but it's really a iii. It's seriously so fine that it looks thin, but every hairdresser who has ever touched it *always* says 'wow, you have a LOT of hair!' about 5 minutes in. My daughter's is even worse, even though her hair is cut VERY short, it takes two dye packs to get all her hair done.

-
Re: Long-haired herpers UNITE!!!
LOL - what an interesting thread! According the the info Kara provided (thanks for that btw because I was wondering how you guys knew all these strange codes for hair!) I guess I am...
1a/C/ii
I don't do anything special with my hair. I use Pantene shampoo with conditioner and then Pantene conditioner by itself. In the mornings, I wake up, brush it, and use a little bit of taming gel to smooth it down and I'm out the door! I've never dyed or highlighted my hair before (although I'm thinking of dying a small strip of it violet/blue for this coming Halloween :D ). When I go to the stylist they always say how rare it is for them to work with "virgin" hair nowadays LOL.
Here's a pic (it was much longer than this but I had it cut about 4 inches right before Daytona)...

Re: Long-haired herpers UNITE!!!
Wow that's a seriously pretty black head python.. lol! Your hair is lovely too Celia.
I have never dyed my hair or highlighted it either. I don't want to mess with it, it's fine how it is.

Re: Long-haired herpers UNITE!!!
Viva le long hair! Hmm... 1a or 2b ... I dunno. My hair was really curly when it was shorter, and just gets less and less so as it grows. M i I think... It's past my waist now, w00t! I'm too lazy to do anything fancy with it though. Usually just a ponytail or a hat if anything, but I like it down.
I really like Garnier products, myself. The shampoos and conditioners smell fantastic and the dye doesn't burn my scalp, which is a plus! I use Garnier 100% #210 Blue Black color. I love it, deep rich dark midnight color with blue highlights. Tried actually coloring it blue once, but I ended up just looking like I had recently drowned and it faded to a weird dark teal color in 2 weeks. This works much better, lol. But it's getting long enough now that we almost need to use 2 boxes when it starts to fade.

My sister has long hair too. She's the Cousin It on the right. That's her natural color, whereas mine is a darker tawny mouse brown.

Re: Long-haired herpers UNITE!!!
Thanks for the classifications, K! I am an 1b/M/ii and Marky here is definately 3c/C/ii. I will have to try the hair-sticks idea; I use a soft scrunchie, and when I am doing "bouncy" things like riding the tractor or jogging, it always bounces out eventually, leaving me with no scrunchie (it always turns up on the front lawn, or in the woods lol) and hair everywhere..
Any ideas for a cure for dandruff?
-
Re: Long-haired herpers UNITE!!!
My hair is 3a,M,ii. I really don't do much to it. I take a bath before going to bed, wake up in the morning wet it down , run my fingers through it and go! The only time I brush my hair is after I take my bath (I also don't blow dry it). If I brush it when it's dry.....you don't want to know!
-
Re: Long-haired herpers UNITE!!!
My hair is odd. It's completely straight on the top layer and wavy underneath. In general though I'd say 2b,M, iii. I've been growing it out, because my husband likes it longer. It's a PITA for me. Plus it's the first time in my life that I no longer have bangs. Not exactly sure what to do with the mop..... So I leave it untamed most times. :D (It's been known to eat small children. ;)
-
Re: Long-haired herpers UNITE!!!
What-all shampoos/conditioners do you's use? I just started using Nexxus again; I used it back in my teen years. It is expensive, but everything I have tried thus far gave me horrible scalp residue/buildup, and it could also be our water (well water; non-odorous, but undoubtedly mineral-laden.) I just tried Nex tonight, and will let you's know how it works tomorrow when it is dry..
So what do You use?

now that is some serious hair discussion tools!!!
my hair is short right now... but has pretty much always been long. i'm deciding whether or not to grow it out again. i really loooove keeping it in a messy bun and miss my scrunchies :P
when my hair is long it's: 2bMii
my hair was iii when i was younger but once i hit 40 that 'thinning' started and i just don't have the thick hair i used to have :(
i use a product from lush - it's sea salt shampoo... i love it! i alternate between that and a green clay organic shampoo. i don't use combs or brushes... just my fingers no matter how long my hair is.
-
Re: Long-haired herpers UNITE!!!
Omg, I can't believe how big that black headed is -wow!
Hair classification...um, until puberty hit, I was 2c M-C iii easily. In puberty, my hair looked like I stuck a finger in a light socket, 3cMiii. Since then, my hair has calmed and thinned itself. It's deceptively thin when clean, but give it a day, and I look like a wayward ragamuffin from the original Woodstock, 3aMii. I easily could have locks without much work...the ringlet curl tension is still there.

Re: Long-haired herpers UNITE!!!
Here's an update. My friend dyed it for me yesterday; used Garnier Fructis. I am in love! :D.

Re: Long-haired herpers UNITE!!!
Wow....NICE Jen!!! :sunny:
-
Re: Long-haired herpers UNITE!!!
My hair is 1a, C and either ii and iii. I've got really coarse straight asian black hair. My total hair isn't really thick, but the individual hairs are like "point lines" as one my friends said. My hair is not long enough to put into a ponytail to really tell for the volume one.
I haven't had long hair in quite a while. It's much easier for me to keep it short at work. I have no desire to get my hair caught or in the way of some electronics I may be working on.
I've had my hair down to my waist before though...and then I chopped it off, donated it to locks of love and have had short hair since.
I use the herbal essences shampoos and conditioners. It's biodegradble and smells great.
This is kinda funny in the timing, I helped a friend shave his brother's head yesterday for the first time :)

Thanks! I really liked the Garnier; it wasn't as scalp-burning as the other stuff I've used. And not too liquidy/drippy either.

I dont do anything special to my hair, I think personally I dont treat it to good, but it grows like a weed. I never get it cut...maybe once a year if I'm lucky. I dye it ever so often...keep saying I'm never going to again but cant resist. I used to tent it with strong coffee, I have to say that kept it nice and soft and shiny.
I wash it once a week most of the time, I know that keeps it healthier and stronger..even though I have really oily hair by the weeks end. Plus it all depends on what were doing, if I sweat alot once day then of coarse I wash it, but if its a normal week of house work, pool and beach stuff then nope.
I deep condition ever so often, with what ever I have on hand, I like to make alot of hair care, face care and soap products if I have it all around the house.
I do rinse with vinager, keeps my hair shiny. I also take cold showers, I'm not a fan of hot water...burns to much fuel to heat, plus its Florida...its to hot already.
I do shed ALOT, thats the one thing I hate.
I usually can be found with it up in a messy bun or pony tail, I hate having it down in this blazing heat, usually I get right out of the shower and put it up and dont take it down until bed time, I have had plenty of occasions where I am actually shocked at long it is because I never look it down. lol. I did just have 4 inches cut off in June, it was aboce my bra line, but now...sheesh, it grows so fast. When I do cut it, I have them donate the hair to Locks Of Love. It makes me feel good knowing its being used. Plus its always around 6 inches that they take.
I would say its pretty thick I guess. Any who enjoy.
~Audrey

There's only 1 damn photo of me when I was 19 with long hair. I had to cut it 'cause I couldn't get a job and oddly, people would see me walking down the street and would make sure the walked around me with plenty o' room. I'll see if I can scan it for you guys.

I hate that stage of your hair is too short to put behind your ears, but no long enough to leave down without looking like a mushroom head. https://ball-pythons.net/forums/imag...es/biggrin.gif Plus, when I had long hair I had like 2-3 people who had kids while I'd be waiting in line at the grocery store they'd pull their kids away from me, and one mom said to my face "I dont know you, but I don't trust you and I think youre a bad man" my reply was "Ok, you JUST said you dont know me, so why make that comment" and she walked away and said "God will take his wrath out on you" ... Weird huh?

Re: Long-haired herpers UNITE!!!
yeah a little odd, I would of told her eating children isnt your thing and that you find there un-educated parents to be more tasty. :O
I fight alot of crap day in and day out, being a younger tattood mom, I get alot of looks and stuff. It's really hard, something that gets me pretty upset because I fight to make sure Raigen knows to go ahead and go against the grain if she wants to and that its okay to be diffrent or the same who cares. But at the same time I find myself covering my tattoos or dressing more the part when I know we are going somewhere like a park day or some sort of festival with other families, just because I want her to have a chance to make friends and so on. But at the same time I fight with myself about not caring if they like me etc. I dont mind really if you dont like me, but dont dismiss my child because of it. Sad sad world were in.....my shrinks loving it though lol.

I've always been myself, and always answered to my authority. Hell, for my high school graduation I wore a Slayer t-shirt with Converse high tops and shorts. Everyone was givin me (censored) about dressing like that saying I ruined their photo blah blah blah. Yet, it was June and 105 out. They were sweating and I was happy as can be :D Plus me being a metalhead I got lots of crap for people thinking Imma Satanist. Uh, no, I'm not. People care way too much about others. Hell, I've even told off my guy friends who tell their GF's that they are fat cause they saw the slightest ripple of cellulite. Then I remind them that 17th century nudes ect the woman were curvy and had real figures. Not a stick figure with blown up body parts. Trust me, most women could cut guys down but since most guys chop woman down at such a young age, it makes it tough.

Ya ladies man, isnt it nuts about the 17th century woman though? I think its awesome, but also sad that only about 5% of America see's it as beauty. Who knows, maybe times will change one day....long after I'm dead and gone I'm sure. But I hope my child or atleast her children get to be woman with out the added stress of being thinner or better then she needs to be.

I'll be honest, I dont find super skinny woman attactive. It's not feminine to me when a chick has a 6-pack and has the facial features of a dude. Sorta like Madonnas body. Ugh, that seriously grosses me out.

Re: Long-haired herpers UNITE!!!
I like toned people, I dont find men or woman who are ripped to be anything other then gross. I'm affraid of any woman with arms bigger then my body lol. Yes, Madonna is not a fine wine which gets better with age. Every time I see her she is in less and less and becoming more and more disgusting. It's like watching my Grandma grind in a bathing suit...only good to watch when drunk. :carrot:

I have two comments to this!
1). OK; so guys who have long hair are pure evil scum who kidnap kids and beat on women.. how do you explain someone like that Luster guy? You know, the one that Dog, the Bounty Hunter, became famous for catching; this man was convicted of 80+ rapes/drugging women, etc. BUT this guy had short hair and a clean-cut complexion, so he was a good guy, riiight? lol. I could fill a novel with names of clean-shaven, "conservative" criminals who partake in the most heinous activities imaginable.
2). Look at ANY photo of the image of a Caucasion version of Jesus; or for that matter, paintings of the likeness of god.. bearded, long haired men. So no Christian who displays these images, prays to them, etc., in my opinion, has the ability to decry masculine long-hairiness.. direct hypocrisy there. My mom is a very religious person and she agrees with me here!
There Jenny goes, starting religious debate in the Hair Thread!! Sorry, it just astounds me how judgemental and small-minded people can be.. reminds me why I live out here on the farm.
I have always loved long-haired guys; hell, all of the human beings I have ever had "a relationship" with, had long hair. I just thought about this the other day and it is true!

I to am fond of long haired people, although I have seen alot of woman with pixie short hair or shorter who make it look so good, I wish I could shave my
head.
And Mike, I havent seen you say anything disgusting in a long time...please use this space to gross me out lol.
Also I like to argue that Ted Bundy was a very nice looking man...with short hair. Wasnt he a nice guy? :P
