Sad Day:( RIP Mr Bo Jangles
So not sure what happened and our whole family (me, my husband and our 2 young sons) are very sad. We bought Mr Bo Jangles about 5 weeks ago from PetCo (they said he was captive breed - but who really knows) We had some issues the first week with feeding, but then he started eating like a champ ( 2 fuzzies a week for 3 weeks) had his first shed and it was perfect except the top of his head. His temps have been good 82-84 on the cool side and 90-93 on the warm side. I changed his cage twice in the 4 weeks we had him. Changed his water every day. But then this last week he did not want to eat, so I assumed no big deal I would just try in another couple days. We all had become very attached to this little guy:(
On Saturday night he was fine - no problems hung out acted completely normal!!! Woke up Sunday morning and he was dead!:( We have no idea why- assumption is he had some kind of parasite or something from the petstore?? He never had a BM for us to take to the vet to check.
Before we bought him we had spent a few weeks educating ourselves about BPs and have tried to do everything perfect. We are now kicking ourselves for buying from a petstore but we thought we did everything right:( Anyways we had all fallen in love with BPs thru Mr Bo Jangles.
So we would really like to buy our next BP thru someone we know has done everything the way you should before we take over adoption. Does anyone have any BP hatchlings for sale??? Where should we look?
Thanks for any help, Cara
RIP Mr Bo Jangles:(

so sorry to hear about your loss.
8ball Adam is a reputable guy that hangs around these parts, you can PM him and see if he's got anything.
Also, Evan Jamison may have something. There's a lot of people around here who are worthy of buying from..i just named the 2 right off the top of my head..there's soooo many more.

So sorry to hear this happened to you. It sounds like you had everything set up properly and did your research. It shows that animals can be sick and unlike people, never show symptoms until it is too late. Unfortunately I don't have any hatchlings. If you are interested, I have a yearling male that I would be willing to give you. The only thing you would need to pay is shipping. Please think about it and if you are interested, I would be happy to send you pictures. Best of luck in whatever you choose!

I should point out that this male is over a year old. Due to a move I wasn't able to breed this past season so I have nothing younger. Some other forum members might though if you are looking for a baby (I understand wanting a baby to start out).

Sorry to hear about your loss.
If you're especially concerned with why he died, you can take him to the vet to have a necropsy done... see if it was something he already had, or something he contracted while in your care. Could be useful info to know if you're planning on getting another one.
IBD is a huge danger to new additions, and I really hope thats not what it was, but knowing for sure can help as far as setting up for your new addition.
Good luck in the future!

Jamie - This so VERY VERY Nice of you, my family and I have been very happy in the help and extremely nice people we have come across on this forum board - during our first few weeks I had quite a few questions and everyone was always so HELPFUL!! This is truly a great board to be on...
I would definately be interested in seeing some photos. I will PM you with my email. My only concern is how big is he right now? We currently have a 10 Gallon tank (Since Mr Bo Jangles was only a few months old). Our plan was to get a larger tank for him as a xmas present for the kids. I will also talk to our boys and see how they feel about a yearling as they did want a baby. But to me these amazing animals are awesome no matter how little or old they are - I have become hooked on them:) AGAIN thank you so much for your kind offer.

Hi - Yes it would have been nice to have a necropsy done; however for the healing process our boys needed to have some closure ( there was alot of crying going on - they are only 5 and 8) - so we had a little funeral this afternoon in our backyard for him and made him a little headstone:(
I will be thoroughly disinfecting everything before we get a new BP. We did not have any other snakes so i think whatever he had, he had from the petsore.
Thanks

A 10 gallon might work for a couple months but it'll be a little tight. I can certainly understand that the kids might want a baby. Its like bringing home an adult cat as a pet for kids. part of the excitement for them is watching the animal grow. There are a bunch of excellent breeders on this site that may have younger balls. I am sure they will post shortly.

Re: Sad Day:( RIP Mr Bo Jangles
Thanks everyone for all your condolences. It's nice to know there are people out there who understand that this loss is a big deal. So many people don't understand snakes and fear them.
My oldest son had been working with his teacher and school to get permission to have me bring him in for 10 minutes for his show and tell this week to educate the kids in his class - to hopefully teach a few more people to not fear these amazing animals.
Again thank you all for being such a helpful and caring forum.

Re: Sad Day:( RIP Mr Bo Jangles
i am sorry for your loss. I know how bad that can feel. My first snake a red tail boa that i got at a show ( from a reputable dealer) was only a baby maybe 6 months old... was a sweet little girl, ate and pooped like normal and was fine right up until she died about 2 months after i got her. I still have no idea what happened and it was extremely heart breaking!
Its been about 5 months and i just, 3 weeks ago bought my very first BP at a show from a breeder. he is such a sweetheart.
Good luck in your search for a new baby for your family. My thoughts are with you and Mr Bo Jangles!
