Sorry that they are all in-cage pictures, but I HAD to take some pics and I didn't want to upset them too much. I also figured I'd take a few pics of my racks I've set up through out the last few months...they need the edging put on, but they are perfect...just really heavy. I won't build another rack or cage again...it's worth the money to get something you can move without a crane!

Re: The Newbies are HERE!!!
Beautiful, beautiful animals, Jimi! And that's a pretty sharp looking rack you built, too! I wonder if you could install casters on the bottom of it? That would make it a lot more mobile for ya. ;)

Why is it on that rack there are no hides (or I just can't seem them). Do boas need hides?

I don't use them. IMO Boas don't need them. Never had a use for them when they were in there. My dumerils ALL get lots of crumpled newspaper though. You can see it in the second tub down. They are ground snakes like BPs and need the security feeling, but still...no hides. That albino is a suri cross, a little pricey, plus she is a yearling too.

Thanks! I still can't believe how small she is for a year and a half old though. Barely eating crawler rats! My March 06 het female is bigger than her. She is a keeper though. I am starting to believe that the cancun mixing produces a better saddle on albinos. Her saddles are really vivid and dark. Mix that with a suriname for the tail coloring...wow! A nice coral bloodline colombian albino and we are styling!

Most breeders feed their babies a somewhat maintenance diet, some even keeping them on mice while they hold these babies. It keeps them smaller which means less space needed and it cost less to feed. I don't agree with this and prefer to just feed all of them as if they were mine.
I've seen mid 05 boas that were just going on rat pups and about 2ft. My 06 babies that were born in May are already of F/T fuzzy rats every seven days, by November they should be on rat pups and by this time next year they should be 3ft, without pushing them in any way. My early and mid 04's are between 4.5-5.5ft and are taking large to jumbo rats and my 05's are on small rats.
That 1st & 2nd year is critical they be fed well, not pushed, but well.

You're not kidding!
The Suriname will be added to my albino lines. I'm hoping to cross her with a sharp het and then breed the females back to the sharp het male.
My female dumerils are high pink, but he is SCREAMING pink!!! Here is a little contrast of the two lines:
The females:

The new male:

Re: The Newbies are HERE!!!
I was so into your Albino I didn't really noticed the Dumerils.
Those are some real nice Dumerils you have there Jim!
I love Dumerils and enjoyed keeping and breeding them. IMO, there is no calmer snake than the Dumerils Boa. You could not get any of mine to ever strike at all or even a hiss, they were just so placid, except during feeding of course. I would reach in and grab new born babies right from under the females face and not a care in the world. Even baby Dumerils are docile and once you get them properly started, they are no trouble at all!
The only stress was the 220-240 day waiting game for babies compared to 105 on average with other Boas. Also Dumerils have small litters, you could have a fully mature adult, 6ft, 20lb female drop 3-4 babies after 220 days. But 8-12 is the average, the females I had would drop 8-16 on average.
Here are some pics of what you can expect in a few years.
