Most temp guns sold in the pet trade aren't very accurate at all. I used to use Rayteks until Vaughn bursted my bubble. :(

I have one from Chef's Warehouse (a supply store for resteraunts), I figured if it has to tell the temp of food it must be accurate.
It was 100 bucks and about 3 inches long, it was a tiny thing. I dont really like that it doesnt have a laser though.

Vaughn is evil like that. But if you are like me and just want a good estimate of your temps within 3 degrees, the temp guns are not bad. Plus they have the cool laser thingy. I like the Pro Exotics ones.

Do all ya'alls temp guns have min/max memories on them so you can properly track what goes on while you're NOT looking? :)

Re: Which temp gun and where ?
the temp guns i use at work do not use min/max functions, but the probes do.

the guns do not use min/max, because it's more of an 'instant temperature' rather than an 'average temperature' so you would hold the button long enough for the digital readout to stablize, and then release and there's your temp. takes about 2 seconds.

the one i use measures the temperature of a surface about the size of a dime. interesting enough, if i shine it through glass, the laser shines through, but the readout shows the temp of the glass surface.

i don't know if they all work this way, but i have a lot of fun with mine at work. hey how hot is the light on the ceiling? what about my hand... etc...

    easy jobs rock.
