Albums that defined a certain time in your life.
We all have certain moments in our lives that when you think back about someone you broke up with or went on a great vacation ect. What are a few albums that defined a certain time in your life? For me

Iron Maiden "Killers" ... I was 5 years old and heard metal for the first time!

Van Halen "Fair Warning" I was at my first job, working late into the nights to make deadlines.

Slayer "Reign In Blood" I went to a continuation school after dropping out of regular school ... Yes, I graduated.

Judas Priest "Turbo" There's a song called "Parental Guidance" and it's about people not understanding why people love metal. It was perfect 'cause I was getting family flack for being a metalhead.

Cannibal Corpse "Tomb of the Mutilated" The first time I heard death metal, and knew I wanted to be in a metal band.

Hm.. from the time I was roughly 16, to 19.. Type O Negative's October Rust. I still listen to it, but it was one of those CDs that just defined that era; barely going to school, not working, hanging out in my friends' attic smoking, swiping beers from their dad, staying up and living off of foods from the nearby convenience store.. some other CDs that pop into mind from that time was Tool's Aenima, Ozzy's Ozzmosis, and System of a Down.

After that, my best friend Jill and i spent many a night just aimlessly driving around; I worked til, say, 9pm and then we hit the streets! We'd go to the drive-in; get various friends and hangers-on to go out for coffee, etc. and got into mroe trouble than anyone can imagine! During this time we heavily listened to alot of dark stuff like Electric Hellfire Club, more Type O, Marilyn Manson, and a bunch of stuff you probably never heard of :)

Now, I am living the hardworking, relatively tame life with my man; couldn't be happier with my 50 hour workweek, horses to care for, and rural life; but I still love my crazy music! it is amazing how one song can bring you to tears, or drive ya to hysterics just from memories that it brings up!!

I'm quite amazed at the musical tastes on this website. Dig it. Lesse, I'm going to have to go with...

Ænima - Tool - I first heard them in the 8th grade. I loved them instantly and actually just got back from thier show last weekend. That was my second time seeing them. It was incredible.

Blackwater Park - Opeth - First taste of some real death metal, but the clean singing and melodic acoustic guitars made it a little more palpable. Love them and have seen them live twice as well.

    Currently it's:

Bloody Kisses - Type O Negative - I love this guys as of late. They have a really groovy sound that is almost hypnotic. And since I recently got hired on at Hot Topic, I'm sure I'll be hearing more of them. (Side note, My manager has 5 BPs of his own!)

Cool; glad to see another Type O fan! I heard a rumor though that Peter Steele is in jail.. gotta research that when I have more time today later on. I don't care, their music is the best.

In my youth, it had to be AC/DC. My dad loved it; I would come home from Kindergarten, and he would be playing it really loud on the record player--every time I hear old AC/DC, I think of my dad and my childhood.

As I got older, music actually stopped mattering to me, until I got into high school; I'm ashamed to admit that I was a HUGE ICP fan in 10th grade. I grew out of that. 'Nuff said.

Then there was Georgia, a few back roads late at night going to and from college, and Jonathan Davis. I would listen to Korn right wide open in my car, speed my way to classes and then home. I loved that--the freedom of being able to listen to my music as loud as I wanted.

After college, it was V.A.S.T. until about the time I moved to MD, and then I just pretty much gave up picking favorites and just become an audiophile. It's a lot easier. I listen to so much music of so many varieties, it's not even funny. Right now(and this isn't much for me), my computer has 1511 songs on my winAMP playlist--and only so little because I currently don't have a huge harddrive to store all the music I'd want to have.

Crap.... I gotta add Audioslave fore current. Not the last cd... the one before. I'm a huge Chris Cornell fan. Temple of the Dog was um, too good. Anyone ever hear Brad? Shame was my fav. from them. Current songs I play before seeing the office staff... Mudvane Fu%$#ing determined... Nonpoint 2 cd's ago.... And then I throw in some Nina Samone. Gotta be well rounded right? Traffic tunes... #1 Primus! You can't really develope road rage listening to Tommy the Cat! :P

    boom boom tsk.

alright, since apparently everyone (or most) of bp.net'ers are metal heads...

i would say Rancid's Up Against the Wall, Radio, and Ruby Soho resound to me. I cant say much for albums but those three songs really reviberate for me. Radio makes me nostolgic(sp).

then, NOFX's I'm Not Insane (i think that's it...i could never remember the name of that song- but that's a bit of the chorus) and Pods & Gods also come to mind as songs that mean a lot to me, even though the former is just goofy and the latter ... i have no idea ... you have to hear it or such.

I must be the oddball here. Which is ironic, because I'm the oddball in real life due to my passion for snakes....and in the snake world, I'm the oddball because I've never been into metal music. :confuzd:

Anyhow...two albums that totally bring me back to my teenage years are Journey's Escape, and Styx's Paradise Theater. I can sing every song, even all these many years later, and any song from either of these albums will send me back in time...

    Police - Synchronicity
I burned out two cassettes of that album in college, I played it so much

Ahmad Jamal - Live at the Pershing
One of the finest live jazz recordings ever, in my opinion, really a defintion of my first years in California.

Queen - Live Aid at Wembley '85
Actually, the DVDs of the Live Aid concert. Queen's performance there, commonly referred to as Queen's best live performance ever, made me a huge Queen fan. If I'm having a bummer day, I'll just watch their 17 minute performance for a "pick-me-up". =) Rick introduced me to Live Aid and Queen. =)

Oh yeah...Synchronicity was a great album, too.

I had a cassette that I burned out in college, too. I spliced that poor thing together so many times it was a wonder you could even recognize the music anymore. Mike Olefield's Tubular Bells....AWEsome music! Hehehe...gotta love those good ol' cassette tapes!

My first cd ever: Green Day-Dookie, who remembers the secret song hmmmmm.

Then after that was Metallica-Black album

More current: Necrophagist, BTBM, Becoming the Archetype, any tech metal, ambient, or anything unique. Mars Volta, Turning Machine, Gypsy Kings you name it I probably heard it. Love music what can I say.

Hey Laooda; Mudvayne is awesmoe. i never cared for them, seeing their looks and thinking "oh, another Slipknot-type band.." But I listened to them, and I love their singer's voice; it is almost unbelievable how he sings.
I am not just a metalhead though, by any means, though I Love Slayer, etc. I am also oddly enough a fan of New Wave; alot of it from the 80s was crap, but I love The Smiths, Duran Duran, and OMD to name a few. And Bon Jovi; I adore those guys too; reminds me of being young and sneaking into ym older sis's room to listen to her coveted CDs; Guns and Roses, Poison, to name a few, and so me and my friend could play by sis's boyfriend's off-limits Nintendo!!! I am also a big fan of NIN, KMFDM, Pig, etc.
Hey, who mentioned Faith No More..? My man's favorite band; I never even knew they put out anything besides "Epic", lol, till he came around; their lead singer, Mike Patton, had some awesomely weird side projects, not to mention Mr. Bungle; anyone else know this?
I really like most all music, except I am just not a huge rap fan; I can't stand the repetitiveness and ripping off of others' songs; but I like a Tupac song (just one, forgot the name too, heh.)

Freakin' NUTS!!! That's Rob's Fav. too! Mike Patton is his "idlo" or whatever he calls it... Really, no lie! I think he saw the side project... I remember some stories! Somewhere he's got their live VHS tape! GOOD TIMES! Yea, Mudvane.... I kinda got exposed to it from Rob and his bandies... (I've learned to apriciate "harder" stuff)??? Anyhoo, So I started to really listening and you pegged it. His voive is like no other! So we got the live DVD thing, and yea... he's that good live! Another I've grown to like is Stonesour. (singer for Slipknott)... but VERRRRY diffrent. I'll also throw in some piano classics when the mood strikes! :P Too cool! Tupac... was it California!?!? good jam!:D

Old Slayer is the best. I got lucky and found Show No Mercy, Haunting the Chapel, Hell Awaits and Reign In Blood all on LP. Cost me about 75.00 for all but it was well worth it. Ive been looking for those LP's for over 10 years. I coulda gone E-Bay, but wanted a challenge to find em.

When License to Ill came out, it had a huge impact on my life ... For a while, everything I did was loosely based on the lyrics to "Slow Ride" ... to this day, I still know every single word on the album ... then a couple of years later, Gorilla Biscuits self titled debut reeled me back in so to speak.

The way these albums are such polar opposites of each other and yet how each had such a huge impact on my life ironically is right in line with how i "tick".
