WANTED Pastel Male

Looking for one thats ready to breed. Waiting for some good prices. Also I will be looking for a Female Normal that's about 800 grams in weight.

Not sure if you can find a male that ready to breed at this time,just incase have you checked www.kingsnake.com? I hope your not wanting to breed a female at 800 grams:confused: .You might find some females still but expect a higher price for them since its getting closer to the breeding season.Good luck:cool:

Females typically breed for the first time at around 1500 grams and in their second or third winter. Older girls need to be at about 500 grams per foot of length.

IMO finding a breedable female right now is going to be tough. Most people will not let go of prime breeder females. I would be very cautious. You need a perfectly healthy female, of the right size and age, that will continue feeding unitl you cycle her. A female that fits those criteria would be very expensive. I would not be surprised if the large girls that are let go are not what you would want in a breeder.

Not being rude here but i think you should read up on ball pythons a bit more before you attempt breeding them.Breeding any snake is not a easy task and it takes alot of time and money to assure your snakes are in there best possible health.Unless you have alot of money just setting around i doubt you are going to find a quality group of females ready to breed.You might find some wild caught non eating half dead crap at a cheap price.You might find a decent male pastel at a reasonable price though,just research before you buy.I was told in my beggining not to rush into breeding attempts because you will fail.I am now passing this advice onto yourself.I am not being mean or wishing bad luck towards you just telling you the whole truth;) .

You have been a member of this site for a short time and in that time have posted a ton of threads asking for information about rat breeding and snake breeding. I would hardly think that you are at the point of being ready to take on a breeding project. Breeding snakes takes planning, money and the ability to do what is needed to keep your snakes in top condition (vet visits, quality caging and heating, etc). It seems to me that you might be seeing dollar signs. Very few people get rich breeding snakes. You should start out wanting to do it for the love of the animals and if you make a few bucks, then great. Not the other way around. I would urge you to sit down, think about why you want to breed snakes and figure out whether you can afford to (time and money) do what is right to keep them healthy and happy.

I agree with what's been said here. Your posts have not demonstrated yet that you have the experience necessary to consider breeding this season.


I've only owned ball pythons for about a year and a half, but I'd hazzard a guess I have a lot more experience than you do, based on the number of animals that I have and the research I've done in that year and a half. Hands on experience is also invaluable.

Even at my current experience level - even I don't feel that I am ready to breed yet. Instead, I am building a quality colony females, looking for the very best males from reputable breeders who also breed for quality, not quantity. I'm continuing to learn every single day, and having a blast raising up my girls and watching their growth. I can't even begin to explain the satisfaction in knowing that "I" raised these girls to breeding weight with my dedication and love for them.

I've had two rescues that were old enough and big enough to breed - but I knew I wasn't ready, and they've gone to someone else who has that experience, and allowed me to add some other animals to my collection that I probably wouldn't have gotten otherwise.

You're still asking basic care questions, I honestly don't think that you are ready to breed this season, based on what I've read from your posts. In fact, aren't you still housing two ball pythons together because they've always been housed that way and get along fine? You need to fine tune your husbandry skills, don't dismiss advice given you here and take your time! It will pay off ten-fold!

O my god HOLD THE PRESSES Jamie has agreed with me :eek: .All jokes aside,i have 9yrs experiance with reptiles and i just completed only my second year breeding them.My first year i bred my pair of just everyday normal ball pythons and was tickled to death seeing those little faces sticking out of the eggs some 60 days later:D .My corn snakes both double clutched this year and the snow even threw a third clutch.All of this was made possible from my previous experiance on how to properly care for them before i bred them.Reptiles are not like breeding rabbits they take alot of time and proper care before you attempt to even think about breeding them.Please do not think we are being a bunch of jerks here,we are just all being truthfull.

jwk, i've got some breedable girls for you....1800, 2000, 2200, and 3000...

You can have any one of those at $1/gram.

Thanks you all for taking the time to right out what you think. I've decided to wait until next year before I breed any balls. I thought I was ready for this year but I'm not going to be able to afford all of this right away. A month ago I researched about breeding ball pythons for many hours and learned pretty much everything I needed, to know to start breeding anyways. And I must've got the weight for males mixed up with the females, but of course I was going to look into it all again. Thanks for your concern ;), and yes I know you're not trying to be rude or jerks, lol. :D
