    Soaking
This is weird my pastel has been soaking once a day for a couple days now. I know what your thinking mites not exactly , I did order PAM from Matt today cause I should have it anyway. My pastel has probably shed once in 4 months don't you think that has something to do with it. Every bp in my collection is eating like pigs and healthy the pastel is the only one soaking. What do you guys think?

Is this an adult pastel we're talking about? Mites is the first thing that comes to mind but if you have that squared away then I don't know. Perhaps its just a recently developed qwerk. Unless its a fairly young snake I wouldn't worry with the shedding aspect, each snake is unique. I would just make sure he's not soaking in there for too long everyday, you wouldn't want to increase the risk of scale rot.:2cent:

My female Bela is doing the same thing; and no signs of mites; I use paper towels, so they would be impossible to miss. My temps are all right too; not sure what to tell you if your temps are all right.

IF a snake soaks to rid itself of mites, it will probably be successful in getting rid of at least a few...in the water dish. You'll be able to see them sitting there, drowned, in the bottom of the water dish. That's how I discovered that one of my new additions had mites. I was checking his water dish to see if it needed filling/refreshing, and saw a little black spot in the bottom. It was a mite.

By the way, this is why I only use WHITE water dishes! ;)

Most of my snakes soak a few hours before defecating in the water. Sometimes it is for a few hours a day until they finally let go. Maybe your pastel is trying to loosen things up ;) .

Have you fed her recently? Sometimes a snake that eats a little bit larger of a meal than they should will soak ... the idea is that if they can "float" their bodies in water it will relieve the pressure the little bit larger than normal food item is causing internally on their body.

I think you got it he ate a rat that was a little bigger than usual for him.For some reason he likes smaller prey in comparison to the others. What do you think of the infrequent sheding?

Not overly unusual ... every snake is different ... unfortunately, they're not like DVD players where everything works just like the manual describes. ;)
