happy hatch day to me!

i found this earlier today (day 56) upon checking in on my incubating clutch:

(ok, so i'm a little excited :) )

this clutch is the result of breeding cash (100% het pied) to norah (normal). 10 eggs were laid, two of which went bad fairly early on, leaving me with a total of 8 eggs looking good and ready to pop. :P just the two noses in the photos have pipped so far.

here's hoping for lots of girls to raise up to try for pied babies with! :pinkele:

thanks ya'll! :) the one with the cute little spots on its nose keeps coming about 1/4 of the way out and nosing around, but then when it sees me it goes backing right back up into the egg and the little flap closes behind it. silly thing! come out and meet me already! :P :D

AND, i have now received my official FIRST snake bite! :O little miss spot nose is a fiesty one! :P i reached into her tub to remove the hide from in front of her so i could snap some pics and she wasn't pleased about that one bit. sorry, no photos of the bite wound though--it is slightly less than impressive. :giggle:

Awww how sweet! Congrats Em! Here's hoping for a high female to male ratio.

all the snakies have hatched! the last three were out when i got home from work tonight and now all are set up in their homes. :) i have to say, that is the fastest i've ever filled a rack and boy did it feel nice! :P

now, i hesistate to even say this, but i have popped each and every one of the poor little hatchlings about 15 times and i can only pop a hemipenis out of ONE of them... now granted, i am not a practiced popper and this is my first year breeding bps so maybe i'm just not getting it right. but the one male pops right out for me and the others...nothing. so IF, and i do mean IF, i am right, that means i got 1.7 50% het pieds from this clutch!

and now i must go offer sacrifices to the ball python gods and shake my rain stick to a please-tell-me-i-got-the-sexes-right chant. :D

1.7....great odds...not to mention you got an oddball female in the clutch ;)..Do you plan on keeping them all? :D

hmm, will i keep them all? i'd like to keep all the females! :D i had said i was only going to keep 3 or 4 females if i was so lucky as to get that many...but now i'm thinking, how do i choose which ones to keep?! if i just keep them all i will have a much better chance at proving one out! :P

oh and about that oddball spot nosed one, i actually got a second one with the spot nose too, plus a spot right in the middle of her nose! i'll have to get a photo of it.

and yes, some belly shots are in the works. after the round of popping that i just put the poor babies through they are taking a little break at the moment. :)

they are doing great! i know--i'm a little slow on the pics. my husband and i are packing this weekend so we can move soon--either next weekend or the next--so i don't know when i'm going to have some spare time! i promise i'll get some photos eventually though! :)

Now out of curiousity would breeding a 100% het for pied to a normal produce a pied in there or no? Just curiouse...Don't know too much about the genetics of that...

Nope, pieds (if the 50% possible het proves out) and 100% het for pieds (since one is a homozygous animal (the Pied) the normal appearing ones would be 100% het).

thats right :D

but you would of course have to find out if the 50% is a het or not to prove if the babies were 100% hets and to find that out you would have to breed it to a pied or a 100% het.

I would definitely keep all the girls....getting rid of poss het females is like giving away a lottery ticket before the draw happens LOL
