The proper age for a female to be before any breeding attempts is at least 3yrs of age(some go at 2yrs).She should be at least 1200 grams of weight also the bigger the better.Males tend to differ as far as age and weights, some go as young as 6 months to 18 months. As far as there weights it could be 500 grams to 1000+ for the males.I hope this helps :)

Re: proper breeding age?
Personally, I would let a 1000+ gram male and a 1500 + gram female do their thing. ;) Can you say LOTS OF EGGS!?

The male spiders are capable at breeding succesfully at a younger age and weight.Breeding is more taxable on the female as she has to produce the follicles, form the egg shells and lay the eggs and this is why she should be a higher weights.Breeding is still taxable on the male just not as much as compared to the female.

Actually, the physical act of breeding takes a far greater toll on males ... they exert a tremendous amount of physical energy courting and then copulating with the female ... An overbred male that isn't rested properly can actually breed himself to death.

I second that. I get really tired after breeding...I hope that when I die my obituary reads "He copulated himself to death". Wait..That doesnt sound good.

I used the male spider as just an example. It is possible for others to breed at this age and weight.I always give my male a 3 day rest so i count that as a less stressing time for him.I guess it could be compared as equel to both.

...that's a nice way of putting it...

Re: proper breeding age?
It's my understanding that the female should be at least 1500g, regardless of age, and also it is necessary that she be ovulating. Females grow at different rates depending on their feeding schedules, going off-feed, etc.

Females should have adequate body weight for their size ... a 4ft 1500 gram 10 year old female is in no condition to be bred ... they should also probably be in their 3rd winter.
Ovulation occurs after courtship and copulation ... typically triggered by the "warm up" after temperature cycling is discontinued. Females won't breed at all while they are "ovulating".

Re: proper breeding age?
Would you breed a 1500g girl thats 19months old? My girl Wilma is growing at an amazing pace , I'm super surprised she eats a small rat everyweek no extra feeding what so ever.

I would if I felt she was at the proper weight and could handle the rigors of breeding. I don't know about anyone else.

Re: proper breeding age?
most guys i've talked to said that young girls sometimes lay good eggs but that is not the norm. 2nd or 3rd winter seems to be the average for breeder girls to be ready.

Depends on the project, but probably not ... I run at about a 90% success rate (9 out of every 10 girls I put with a male lay eggs) when then girls are in their 3rd winter or older ... For girls in their second winter, my success rate drops to about 30% and then 50% of those girls throw slugs ... It's a much smarter move to wait another year and get that much more size on the girl and "lock in" a bigger clutch in her 3rd winter.
There are no shortcuts.
