Newest Member... WARNING he's cute...

So.... yea. It was love at first sight....... I never even WANTED a Chin. You ever get that "thing"? You just KNOW that you and the critter FIT? The shop I got him from buys from a local breeder, and they are really hands-on w/ their livestock. He's not skitish AT ALL! Still thinkin of a name..... Any input? I was thinkin' Dell, cause he's all about jumpin' on the keyboard lol!
He's 4 mo., a "Black Onyx".... and has WAY too much personality!!! I'll be keepin' an eye out for a nice girlie cause I know they do better in two's....

wow, i am extremely jealous. i have recently fallen for chinchillas as well. they're so freakin' cute. yours looks awesome! i feel ya with the random needing one, that's just what they do. two names came to mind when i looked at yours...either San Pedro or Snowmonkey...or even Andy because i think a tribe in the Andes loved them a long time ago. you probably won't use either and i did name my kitten doorknob so yeah...but i love the name San Pedro. either way, i'm happy for ya...and still jealous...but you have to keep posting pics 'cause it'll make me smile. and definitely update with the final name choice.

Awww...he is just too cute! Thanks for sharing the photos - they brought a smile to my face when I saw them! I don't know anything about Chinchillas - do they make good pets as far as handling goes? Are they pretty flighty in general (since you said yours is not skittish)? What would you compare them to in personality as far as other small mammal pets (i.e. rabbits, ferrets, hedgehogs, hamsters, etc.) - if you could even compare them to anything else.

Whatever you end up naming him, he's just super cute with that little face!

Hahaha....wayyyy too cute! For some reason, the name Pedro really seems to fit. Kinda like what Aza was saying, but without the "San." (Would that be sans San? :P ) He just looks like a Pedro to me.


I've never, ever seen a chin in a petstore that didn't flinch and run anytime a hand or finger went anywhere near it. I'd love to see one that was friendly!

alright i'll agree with the removal of "san"...lol...it does just mean "saint" i believe in spanish so i guess it's not truly a "name". i'm getting a kick out "of" these """'s marks. alright, i'm done. i'd also like to recommend Pooch. Reminded me of a friendly dog. Pedro is probably better though. Either way, have you read about their eating restrictions, some of the things not to feed them like, i believe ,carrots, and other things you would think would be alright? Just asking because i fed one that i fell in love with a carrot, went online while it snacked and found that out, and took it back. the taking back sucks because it looked pretty happy so just to avoid that...yeah.

Sooo cute! I used to have a black velvet,named Chong. Now, I just have a beige male, named Chai. I looove chins, and haved loved them for over 10 years. I have owned several over the years, but I only have one now.

Awe, what a little cutie. My friend has one that was a rescue; was kept in a tiny cage with nowhere to climb, etc. Hers is not very friendly/tame, but I am glad to see yours is!

You will love being owned by a chin. I have. My chin is a little girl, her name is Sniffles, and she is to cute for words!!! Sniffles is old as well, I've had her for a very long time, over 10 years and she is still going strong. Just so you know, Sinffles likes to "play dead". She will be in her house laying on one of her shelfs on her back with her tongue out, and will will think she is dead. We get all upset, reach in, and then she jumps to her feet, with a Why are you bothering me? look.

Hehe, I have one of those chin chillers for the bunnies. Unut likes to rest his forelegs on it all Pharoah style, it's cute. :)

WOW!!! 10 yrs! That's AWSOME!!! As much as I liked Ludo, Pedro, Harley, Onyx, and all the other great ideas....


I decided to name him Mathias... After M. Chapman. I read the AMAZING story of how Chapman took 12 MONTHS bringing the Chins down from their mountians... He was successful only because he took a YEAR to aclimate them.... He iced their down daily etc.....


So, Mathias !!!! THANKS EVERYONE!

Oh what a cutie! We have an excellent chin breeder not far from us and a couple of chins are definitely on our list of pets we want in the next year or two. I was amazed at the variety of colors they come in!

I'd love to go in Jareth drag one year for Halloween, someday! In the meantime other finances (or pets!) keep coming up that thwart my costuming! In any case, it's good to be a dork!
