It might help if you can describe your setup.

    Re: Cant Drop Humidity
Why not? In another thread you said it was a 28qt. In another thread, you said you were using aspen substrate. I also know based on a different thread that you don't have a snake in it yet. How big is your water dish? Where is it? Did you spill water in the tub? Have you put any holes in the tub for ventillation yet?

If your water dish isn't horribly large, and you haven't spilled water in the tub, you probably just need to put some additional ventillation holes in the tub. Also, if your water dish is on the warm side of the tub, try moving it to the cool side.

Do you have any holes in it? If so, how many? Is it in a rack or does it have a lid? What kind of substrate are you using? What kind of water dish are you using? What kind of heat are you using? Where is the water dish located in the cage?

If you're using aspen it might be too damp. Replace it with newspaper temorarily to see if it goes down. If it does, then either find dryer substrate or bake the aspen in the oven at about 200 degrees for 20 minutes. That should dry it out enough to keep your humidity down.

Yep, the ink is fine. Newspaper companies changed their ink formula years ago to a non-toxic soy based ink. It might rub off on your snake a little, but it won't harm him at all.

I'm assuming that by this you mean that you're using a UTH for heat...and the water bowl is on the cool side. LOL

If this is the case, and you have all that many holes drilled...then its likely that the substrate is damp, as Lawrence suggested. OR...if you spilled water on the hygrometer, it can sometimes take a full day or two for the sensor to dry out and start measuring properly.

Yes, the newspaper can have print on it. It won't hurt your snake at all.

Another way to help the humidity levels is to simply have a fan in the room. Not blowing directly on the cage, but just circulating the air in the room. That alone will drop the humidity in my tub by a good 10%.

That might help if you have one. If the ambient humidity in the room is really that high, then yeah...it would be difficult to get the humidity in a tub to go much lower. I still think a simple fan moving air around would help a lot.

One thing to remember is that you will have your BP for the next twenty to thirty years...or longer!! So waiting a few more days...an extra week or two...or even longer...is a small sacrifice in the greater scheme of things.

Ball Pythons will seriously introduce you to a world of "hurry up and wait!"
    --Wait to get one
--Wait for that first successful feed
    --Wait for that first shed
    --Wait for that first poop
--Wait for it to grow up bigger
(and if you end up like SO many of us here)
--Wait 'til you can get a mate for it
--Wait until they both reach sexual maturity
--Wait for the right time to begin the breeding cycle
    --Wait for folicles
    --Wait for ovulation
--Wait for eggs to be laid
    --Wait for babies to hatch
    --Wait for babies' first sheds
    --Wait for babies to eat

wait wait wait wait.....if you say (or spell!) that word enough times, it doesn't even seem like a real word anymore....

(I need to go to bed! LOL)

have you calibrated ur gauge? Its very simple to calibrate and adjust. take a teaspoon of salt and put it in a soda bottle cap. dampin it with a spray bottle. place your meter and bottle cap in a rubbermaid container, make sure it is sealed properly. it isn't a bad idea to put that one in another one. let sit for a few hours. the reading should be 75%. table salt always has a reading of 75% RH. then just use a small screw driver to adjust the difference. clockwise lifts it up counterclockwise is the oppisite.

Really??? Wow. I had no idea those things could be (or needed to be!) calibrated! You talking about the digial ones like Acu-rite?

    Re: Cant Drop Humidity
most of them are pre calibrated from the factory i believe. its not a bad idea to check them ever 6 months or so. It couldn't hurt. I think if you use the salt test with the adjustment that it will void the warrenty though. I believe that a digital can be adjusted. maybe not sorry. I'm going from cigar experience that my girlfriends dad taught me. lol
