It's Fun OUTSIDE the Lines Too...
I just wanted to share some photos of a couple of "unique" babies. There are some Genetic Stripe Ball Pythons that have perfect, unbroken stripes and then there are...well, these guys!
I think perfect, unbroken Genetic Stripes are definitely awesome animals. However, not everyone can be perfect :-)
I like to refer to these guys as "cryptic Stripes". The pattern on them is so broken up they no longer really even look like Genetic Stripes! At first, I wasn't too fond of the broken stripes and I know a lot of people don't like them either. However, the more I saw them and the more broken up the patterns came out, the more I liked them! Now it's almost like they are so "ugly", they're cool - like a "sexy-ugly".
Now if we can eventually produce babies with the broken, "cryptic"-looking pattern all the way down their back, that would be pretty cool looking. Or how about one with a stripe that is broken up it forms circular patterns all down its back - a Motley Ball Python!
Anyways, I just wanted to share some photos of a couple of "sexy-ugly cryptic Stripes"...
What do you guys think?
Celia

Re: It's Fun OUTSIDE the Lines Too...
Celia, I think they're wonderful! What beautiful babies! I certainly wouldn't be unhappy to have a "cryptic" or two in my collection! ;)

Re: It's Fun OUTSIDE the Lines Too...
.....it would be neat if you could fade out the striping all together......would be very similar to a patternless ball :D
Great pics as usual! :handshake

I always thought the patternless looked an aweful lot like a stripe. You can clearly see the stripe down their backs (because it is a brighter color), and sometimes even some black along the side of the stripe (check out the tail end of this one). They just look like genetic stripes where the stripe is connected to the pattern along most of the body.

Wow that stripe (or the lack of) is AWESOME. Sometimes the flukes are amazing.

I think the two traits look very very similar to one another. I wonder if a genetic stipe x patternless would yeild a morph offspring or cause something funny. Oh well... I guess we will see in the future when more patternless ball pythons hit the scene.....there are still very few of those out there ;)

Re: It's Fun OUTSIDE the Lines Too...
Awesome!!! I like it :gj: are you keepin em' all, or selling?

Re: It's Fun OUTSIDE the Lines Too...
Thanks for the comments and compliments everyone! The rest of the clutch actually came out today so I took the chance to take some photos of them all while they were still bright and shiny!
This was a breeding between our male Genetic Stripe and a possible Het. female that ended up proving out for us. There were 8 eggs and 7 out of 8 turned out to be Genetic (cryptic :P ) Stripes! We couldn't have hoped for better odds! The sex ratio on the Stripes is 3.4 which isn't bad either!
There is a huge amount of diversity in this clutch. 5 out of the 7 Stripes have that "cryptic" look to them. There are two individuals that have full gold stripes with no black criss-crossing over it but with a few slight black stripe breaks. These two look totally different from the rest of the clutch because of their "more perfect" stripe.
I'm not sure how the genetics on the Patternless Ball Pythons work but they do seem like a incredibly diminished patterned Genetic Stripe. Hopefully more will be revealed about those guys in the near future.
Liquid Snake 06 - I use a Nikon D200 digital SLR camera with a 60mm macro lens and the Nikon SB-800 speedlight with a diffuser. It's the best set-up I've used to date and I've been really happy with the results I've been getting with this particular camera (and Nikon cameras in general!).
Cue, Jason, and Allison - An Axanthic Genetic Stripe would be pretty cool because the black on Genetic Stripes is SO dark. So, I would think an Axanthic version would have really high contrast. How about a Pewter Genetic Stripe...? (stay tuned............ :D )
4theSnakeLady - I would really like to keep a pair of the most "cryptic" patterned babies to raise up and breed to each other in an attempt to increase the broken, floating patterns. I think Sean probably wants to keep the unbroken golden striped male to raise up as another male breeder. Otherwise, I guess all the others are for sale LOL.
Anyways, here are the new photos...

Re: It's Fun OUTSIDE the Lines Too...
Celia, that is such a beautiful mass o' babies! Congrats both on proving out a poss het AND on hitting such fabulous odds! :fest:

Re: It's Fun OUTSIDE the Lines Too...
those are definitely not even close to being ugly. i actually think that they are better looking than a solid stripe...they are so much more "unique." too bad they are not sold cheap enough for me to afford!
-
Re: It's Fun OUTSIDE the Lines Too...
Are you planning on keeping any of the really unique "broken" ones?

Re: It's Fun OUTSIDE the Lines Too...
Those are AMAZING!!! What did you breed to produce these? Sorry i have no clue about genetics or breeding :] LOL
-
Re: It's Fun OUTSIDE the Lines Too...
I think they are all just beautiful.
I know most people want the perfect stripe, since they are after all called a genetic stripe, but me personally, I prefer the cryptics. That is a clutch to be proud of for sure.

They are really cool. Beautiful pictures too

Re: It's Fun OUTSIDE the Lines Too...
Gorgeous snakes. I do like the broken stripe genetic stripe too... (have one). Full stripes are beautiful and the "standard"...But standard isn't the only form of beauty...yours look beautiful in their orginality.:)
-
Re: It's Fun OUTSIDE the Lines Too...
awesome breaks in the pattern!
-
Re: It's Fun OUTSIDE the Lines Too...
Very Nice! I like the "Cryptic Stripes". Don't get me wrong I like the unbroken also but those are some nice looking animals. I have a couple G-Stripe Het girls coming my way and going to be looking for a G-Stripe male this season to breed them with in a couple years.

There seem to be more and more threads coming back from the dead lately. Some have informative information others just because somebody got bored and wanted to raise their post count....

Re: It's Fun OUTSIDE the Lines Too...
Turbo, not necessarily. I'm interested in finding out if Celia's bred them, now that they're ~~ 4 yo. And if so, how the clutches turned out.
Sometimes old threads get resurrected, because some of us are seeking more recent follow-up to what happened, "way back when". :D
But, it's all good. :)

Re: It's Fun OUTSIDE the Lines Too...
Celia does not cruise the forums anymore, so she will not see this. However, I know that Sean (EbN) has been producing Stripes like that for about 6 years now. I believe that the really broken one should be breeding this year, I am not sure to what though. I will tell Sean about this, and let him make a few comments.

Re: It's Fun OUTSIDE the Lines Too...
These rehashed threads aren't that bad. I love the "for sale" posts that ask if the snake is still avaialable from 2-10 years ago. :rolleye2:
