    I cannot believe it!
Emily, formerly known as Trey, just ate a pinkie mouse! Oh my gosh, I'm so excited....everyone in my house is in a state of shock right now! lol

I put some live hoppers by her enclosure for about an hour, Elphaba's dinner really, but served to scent the area. I did as Joanna told me and had a cup of warm water handy to re-warm the thawed pinkie, and tried dangling it with tongs for a while. No go that way.
So I gently inserted the head of the pinkie into Emily's mouth, and pulled back slightly to hook it on her teeth, just as Jamie told me to try, and ta-da! She swallowed it right down!

I could just kiss you all for the help right now!

Now the wait....will her system tolerate it? Regurge? Keel over dead? Agh!

Jeff says she'll be fine. Men!!!! lol:carrot:

Thanks, Christie! I can't believe how excited I am about this tiny snake eating a tiny mouse, lol.
It's been 3 1/2 months since we got her, and I was really beginning to lose hope it would happen. Yay!!!

Awwww, Christie, thank you so much for saying so. I really have done everything I can, and lately I've been trying to prepare the kids for the fact that she may have to be euthanized. I've explained that tube feeding only works so far, then it's useless.
And now she eats! I'm so relieved right now, I can't find words for it.

Zekesmom, believe me, I know what you mean. All my other snakes eat like champs, this one just refused from the get-go. She's from a pet store, and wasn't well started. Good lesson for me to learn, now I only buy from breeders!

You have been so amazing with this little doll....you and she both deserve a long and happy life together! I'll continue to send warm snakey thoughts for her to keep the meal down and start to thrive!

Rock on!! Awesome stuff Sarah! You might need to assist a couple more times before she eats on her own but definitely let her try herself first next week (assuming she keeps it down). Hopefully she is on the right track now!!

Oh my gosh Becky....please forgive me! I can't believe I left you out of my first post. It was just because I'm still in shock!
I want everyone to know that Becky has been my major rock. Without her, this snake would NOT be alive, period. She has been so patient and informative, and never makes me feel stupid for asking my millions of questions.
Becky, YOU are the one that rocks!

Judy, thank you so much for saying that. I really hope this Emily does live a long, happy life. And just as an update, I decided yesterday to get my daughter a different snake, and she agreed since she really wants a male, so Emily is officially my baby now. The forum guardian angel (can you guess who??) has offered to give her a male he hatched out, and I've accepted his offer! I feel so lucky to have found the support and friendship the people in this forum offer so freely.

I missed the big news yesterday! Oh Sarah how wonderful! I'm crossing all my crossable bits and sending up little snakey prayers that Emily keeps this down and will continue to move forward each week for you. You've done wonders with her. You must promise us a great feeding pic once she's finally constricting and consuming her prey all by herself. What a wonderful thread to open and read...you made my morning girl!

Thanks, Joanna! I will definitely take pics when she's doing it on her own. I would have last night too, but I didn't actually expect her to eat it, ahhaha.
It was so funny, because when she got done, she actually had a confused look on her little snake mug, Jeff and I just laughed at her.

She is doing absolutely fine this morning, no regurge!
