That is definitely a case of "I can't believe I watched the whole thing!" Sheeeesh!

I don't think the snake was "playing" with the food...just didn't figure it had to kill it first in order to eat it...which it obviously didn't. Maybe it takes baby snakes time to figure out the easier ways to eat...just like almost all babies have to learn how to hunt and eat. :confuzd:

I used the word playing to attract attention lol. Im not sure what it was doing... you are probably right. But isnt it instinct to know how to kill prey? And it didn't seem to be such a baby?

I dunno...maybe he "instinctively" knew that the pinky couldn't hurt him, and he could eat it without killing it first. But even with animals that live almost entirely on instinct, I would imagine life has a few learning curves. Life is just way too complicated to expect anything different.

As for it being a baby...sure looked like a baby to me...the wee little pinky looked HUGE in comparison to it!

Still looks like a baby to me...but not necessarily just-hatched. :confuzd: I'm just saying what it looks like to me...that's all.

Baby corn snakes are very easily confused if they have never eaten a live food item.I have 10 babies left from my second clutches and 2 eat frozen thawed mouse pinks(scared of live) and 8 do not care if its food they will eat it lol.My adult breeders eat live when i run out of frozen thawed and its weird when they just start munching down the rat pups still alive:eek: .I had a boa once that ate from the middle up:irkd: .Yes he ate from the mid section up and folded the face to the legs:confused: .He was large enough to eat it without any problems. He normally ate larges and this was a small/medium rat.It was still weird to watch though.

I still think that video is funny to watch. To the same people who think there snakes love them will be the ones who think the snake is playing with its food.

Same reason a young kiddo gets half the chocolate bar on his face even when he wants to eat is all. Young blighter there is just trying to figure out how to get "this eating thing figured out",

I have seen our baby fox snakes do that i think because it was a pinkey and it was so small/young. I also witnessed a bull snake about 5 feet long swallow an adult mouse from behind without constricting it. It was feeding day and by the time we realized he didn't constrict the mouse was looking around from inside the snake's mouth!!!

It is just a bizzar thing!

none of my corn snakes killed their live pinks before they ate them. as they got bigger and their prey items got bigger... they did wrap and kill first.

i was told that they instinctively know the pink won't harm them... so they don't bother killing them.
