Omg...
I just watched the Buffalo News on channel 4.. one of the stories was, some person's ball python got wrapped around their hand, and they needed an EMT to get it off!??!! :sigh2:
I had this happen once, and gently peeled Ginger off of me... what is this world coming to?!! EMTs.. negative publicity for snakes.. sigh.

Re: Omg...
I have been an EMT for several years in an area with a very high call volume. I have never been in a situation quite like this one. LOL, I will tell you how I would've dealt with this.
I would have called police backup while gently removing the "EVIL CULPRIT BALL PYTHON" and placed it in my medic bag for future "inspection". :sweeet:
While all this commotion is happening I would cart that crazy person right to the loony bin. SCORE!!

P.S. I really wouldn't steal from anyone. But it is so hard to resist
their 15ft./80lb/red-green-purple rear fanged BP.

In the newspaper a little while ago there was a small article titled "snake on the loose" or something of the sort. Some guy's ball python escaped... no big deal, right? Well, you know how these types of news stories always include background info? The first line was, "ball pythons can get up to 12 ft long."

It's one of the reasons that I make a goal for myself to educate kids to the proper care of reptiles, to go out and do show and tells at schools, librarys, cub scouts, etc... These kids will be the future news reporters, state senators, and so forth. You can't teach an ignorant person who is stuck in their way, but you can get the kids now and one day we can do away with some of the ignorance before it festers. ;P

Re: Omg...
Since this was the only thing similar, i guess ill get this off my chest.
Not only snakes u know, pissed me off the other day here in south Florida when a lady was killed by her dog(a Presa Canario). all the first reports on the news reported the most funniest things I've ever heard about the breed. One reporter said that they are used to kill pitbulls, wtf? one said the breed was known for being very agressive towards humans. One did say it was a pitbull on steroids (it really does look like it), but still bad press. The ignorance of some ppl huh.
Don't even get me started on the ridiculousness i overheard in the pet store on Sunday.

Cheers!
This story would probably have never even been reported if "Snakes on the Plane" wasnt in thearters
Network News, expecially local network news afffliates seem to want to cling onto anything that might seem like a hot, happening topic....anything to cushion their ratings and get people not to read/get news from the net I suppose.
Local news isnt really journalism most of the time.

Re: Omg...
How bout this, about a year ago my friends mom had a "neiborhood watch program" and she was out one night "protrolling" and she found a "giagantic Boa Constrictor" and she, and her son played it off as she was a hero and that it could have eaten small dogs or even children. Well I got to see this snake, and even handle it. It was sent to my parent's friend's animal shelter and it turns out it was a red tailed boa that was still a baby, it was no more than 3 and a half feet!! So i make fun of that kid and his mom to this day by shedding the truth to the neiborhood. LOL
But it kills me how much bad press is out there and it all started with the bible!!! Saying that the devil took the form of a snake!!!!(my DADs former reason for me not to get a snake)

Re: Omg...
The snake in the newscast was actually a ball python; they showed the guy picking it up after the incident. it could not have been more than 3 feet long; not even an adult. They showed them putting it back into its "box" which was a nicely furnished tank with cypress mulch, etc. It just strikes me as funny that the owner couldn't get the snake off, and resorted to calling the paramedics!

All this sort of stuff could be avoided if people took the time to walk their dogs and give them the training and rules that they need. If i had all this energy and couldn't do anything about it I would flip out and attack my owner too.

I guess if you're new to snakes and that sorta thing happens its sorta freaky. We never really see the extent of their stregnth. That guy probably thought he was gonna loose circulation in his arm and have to amputate...lol

Re: Omg...
First I'd like to say hey guys! I haven't been around in over a year, so to those who remember me ... hello!
You can see video of this right now at cnn.com. Click on the headline "Python bites woman, latches on, and squeezes." It's on the front page at the moment, but not sure how long it will be there. What's funny is in the report, they go to a pet store and interview a guy who talks about how certain snakes can be dangerous and you should start small with a snake like a .... ball python!

I'd like to know about that. I remember it was reported in an English paper (and in America I think) about a Burmese Python that swallowed its electric blanket (by the way, are electric blankets used a lot to heat burm's enclosures? Doesn't sound right to me). In the last paragraph it just went on and on, trying to make the burm look evil. It even said that it "possesses jaws that could swallow a man whole".

Re: Omg...
That lady must have been missing her arms and more than all of her brain to not be able to get a 3' ball off of her head. My 5'+ boa went into full constriction on my hand and arm and I was able to get her off by myself in less than a couple minutes. How stupid some people are.

Re: Omg...
Just watched the video.
*shakes head*
I'm sure that poor snake is going to be dumped somewhere or killed because "it's such a man eating snake!"
*rolls eyes*
I hope not for that snake! As for the owners, havn't they ever heard of trying to spray the said snake with water first t get it off? *shrugs*

Yup, still have him, he's great! Still have my corn too, and I also have a brazilian rainbow boa now. I'm thinking of getting another corn too. There's a decent reptile pet store by me where I get feeders sometimes and I've been eyeing one there for a while. I'm going to pick up a mouse today, and if it's still there, who knows?!!!
