Pics of Kali's Tub... Need Advice
Before I place my baby blood girl Kali in her new tub I snapped some shots to make sure everything was perfect and ready to go! The last thing i need to do is attach the heat pad to the bottom!

    Shot #1 top view

    Shot #2 Side Top View
    https://ball-pythons.net/gallery/fil...iewKaliTub.jpg

Shot #3 Pic of the Holes I made
    https://ball-pythons.net/gallery/fil...tOfKaliTub.jpg

    Is it ready to go?

Oh yea one more thing. The NERD's caresheet says I can keep the entire tub at an ambient temp of 84-86 providing that the overall room temp is not constantly fluctuating. Is this true?

Oh yea and one more small thing. Where should I pace the heat pad? (if the above is true) dead center? or the left or right side?

I would have melted the holes. Drilling them like that can make rough spots that if the snake rubs against them causing abrasions. I would try and make some sort of gradient.

I would put it on one side of the tub in a single corner with a hide on that.

And ambiant should be fine but I still like the idea of a gradient. If you put the heat mat at one side, he can still chose between a high of 88-90 and 80-85 cool side. Its really your call. People have kept bloods both ways with success

yes mate , place the heat pad at one end so you have a good gradient running underneath. They like to lay on heat after a meal but will spend most of their time on the cooler side in my experience.

Also I would add another hide mate , stick on at each end with the heat pad located under one end. Dont make it choose between regulating temp to feeling secure, it should be able to do both.

    Aprt from that looks great.:sweeet:

Is it hooked to a dimmer or thermostat? It takes a while to get them warm.

it is hooked to a lamp dimmer... the only one I could find at lowes! To make sure the dimmer is good enough I took it off and plugged in the pad by itself. Now its warm enough for me to know it works. So now I ran it back through the dimmer so i can see it the dimmer lets enough volts pass through! (if not it will cool right back down right?)

Don't worry, your heat pad's fine. That's normal for it to be slow to heat up. Mine took a few hours to get up to my desired temperature for my BP.

Btw, good move on the switch to a tub! You'll find it to be SO much easier to maintain than a tank.

Oh, and I saw the pictures of your blood python. Really nice!

My dimmer is the same thing as you. My thermostat I'm asking for Christmas is a Herpstat. That way I can make a rack and get some flexxwatt.

good and yours works? about where do you have it set to keep perfect heat? OH and can you show me some pics of thermostats? It doesn't make sense at all how a thermostat is going to heat a rack or tank or tub! Or I'm sure the thermostat is regular the temp pf something else that is heating it? BUT WHAT?

Re: Pics of Kali's Tub... Need Advice
The thermostat has heat tape, or heat pads hooked up to it, like a dimmer, but it has a probe, so it monitors the temp in one tub. ( Still, use a thermometer for monitoring temps/humidity) When it senses the temperature is too high, it cools the heat source down to the preffered temperature.

go to www.mgreptiles.com and click heating supplies. Then click thermostats and look at them. I've heard the best he has are the Herpstats, Rancos, and Johnson Controls.

IM SO PISSED. My damned temp won't rise above 84!!!

    Could this be why?

The bottom of the tub is not flush with a table. It is between 2 tables. (still not hooked up to the dimmer)

The heat pad it attached to the tub? I don't have it not touching it? If I understand correctly although my heat pad is attached the space between it and the desk is causing the loss of heat?

The thermometer is in the back left so it's about about 1/2"-1" away. I just moved it on top of the back of the heat pad along the back wall! (tongue twister) I guess I lied it's at 84.4. It is moving so slow!!!

I like having the thermometer away from the edge of the heat pad. Sort of like in the middle of the heat pad. You will get a better reading IMHO.

Re: Pics of Kali's Tub... Need Advice
I wouldnt do that because that tub I showed was for my corn snake. They only need a reading of the hot side and cool side, no humidity. You could put the accurite on the cool side, and put the probe in the hide, which looks like the middle.

you should put the thermometer probe where the snake will be, inside the hide on the warm side.

HOLY :cens0r::cens0r::cens0r::cens0r:. I put the main component on the cool side in the far corner and the probe in the middle of the hide (practically the middle of the pad) and the temp hit 100 degrees and appears to be climbing... I immediatly plugged in the dimmer! Now my only problem is in the one spot it is 100 but 4 inches away it was at 84.9. HOW in the heck am im going to know the actual temperature?????? How will know the snake will be ok if it leaves its hide!

it's at 90.1 then it dropped to 90 even so i slightly moved the dimmer to obtain a perfect temp. Again with my questions though. what about when the snake leaves the hide? or is anywhere else that the hide that prob is in! The main component of the acu-right sits on the cold side and read about 83-84

Thats a dimmer for ya, If you cant get the temps right then imo buy a thermostat. If you decide to buy a thermostat then get you some flexwatt along with it. Much better than the heat pad.
