went to a new pet shop to day

:mad: hi i went to a new pet shop to day and they had a ball python in there so i checked it out and talk to the owner of the shop and heres what he asked me.

1. snake only eat once every three months?
2. do they drink water?
3. do they eat crickets(SP)?
and i also told him to place a hide in there and he told he wants people to see it that way he can sell it

get used to it. most pet shops don't have hides or a hot/cold side. they plan for the snakes to only be in there a few days tops so they just keep the temps up and think all is good.

see most shops around here are good not great but good and all the other shops i go into they know what a snake eat. this was didn't know anything

there's a petshop near me that is just terrible. they've had a blue tongue skink in there for months (like 6+ months) that doesnt look like its ever been fed in there care. they have a 2 foot dumerils monitor in a 18 inch x 18 inch enclosure. they have multiple adult balls in 18 inch x 18 inch enclosures, they also had a full grown basilisk lizard in an 18x18inch enclosure. the list gos on and on. ive given up on petstores. i just use them for feeders.

Sorry, didn't mean to sound like an a$$. But that one was hurting my head trying to read it.

i work at a mom n pop petstore called pet forum and im the snake guy and my friend brad is the lizzard guy we take the very best care possible of the animals with what we are given and 1 animal per tank is a comodity that we dont have but we do keep them in sufficently large enough tanks its really cool b/c what i say goes and i have all the resources the store has to offer so whatever hides i want in there go whatever heating set up i want goes and the best part is i get to order the animals

Same here - I try to stay out of them - I order my insects online and just go to my friend's store to get my rodents - I know I won't see anything to upset me in there.

Yep that is normal for a petstore. We have a mom n pop store here that is GREAT when it comes to all kinds of reptiles. I wish all pet stores could be like this place!

I know how much you love snakes so you must have been just furious at that idiot. Sad to say Eugene that opening a pet store doesn't mean the owner even cares about animals at all and won't care or want to learn what you were trying to teach him. Stay out of there bud, it's better for your blood pressure. If this pet store is really bad, call Animal Control and see if they will do anything (but it has to be really bad sometimes for them to even bother to show up....they should be doing regular pet store checks as far as I'm concerned).

There is a pet store around me that keeps red tailed boas that dosent think it needs humidity or a heat pad under the cage. Now come on if it is a mostly tropical snake they should realize it needs some humidity and more heat than just a light could provide.

It's not just pet stores that get to me, ignorance about snakes in general really, really annoys me. I just feel like punching people sometimes, LOL. That's why I'm in two minds as to whether reptiles should be allowed to be imported and sold. I think a need for licenses should be introduced, to stop people who don't know anything about snakes getting their hands on them. It's not as if it affects me anyway, stupid parents.
