HI, i was wondering y, all in all, u should bath ur python. I was planning on bathing my new one as needed but i was just wondering how often and for what reasons. And alsoo I heard u should soak them in water when their eyes turn blue, and get ready to shed.

Re: bath?????
If they have a stuck shed, you should soak your Ball python. What is the humidity in your tank?
My brother has a ball named Cartman too. LOL. Mostly because he is fat and lazy. Lol.
Welcome to the site.

Re: bath?????
Bathing your snake is not necessary. Soaking is done occassionally, but only if you are trying to remove a stuck shed. I know a few people around here do soak while in blue, but I do not. I figure if it's not needed then why do it. It will only stress them out.
I hope you have your setup ready for your new snake. Here's a link to our caresheet and our FAQ.

Re: Bath???
Only needs to be done if it has shedding issues. Or if it has mites..... if it sheds perfectly, then your humidity levels are fine!
Not something that needs to be done otherwise.

Your own hands are germy; thats why you have an immune system.

Re: Bath???
To add to what Spaniard said you should actually wash BEFORE and AFTER you handle your Ball Python or any reptile for that matter. The reason is that you can give them diseases/germs and likewise they could give you diseases/germs. One of my friends who keeps forty or so herps caught salmonella. LOL :giggle: I am sorry to laugh but he was in the hospital for a couple days, it was his own fault he did not wash his hands during cleaning day and went Burger King for lunch. I think you could figure out the rest. He learned his lesson. Eeeww man.
WASH BEFORE AND AFTER HANDLING YOUR HERPS, FOR YOUR SAFETY AS WELL AS THE REPTILES SAFETY. (this public broadcast announcement has been.....)

Re: Bath???
You sure it was from Burger King? I have seen some trashy BK places, people making stuff with no gloves on... etc

Re: Bath???
My son and I currently have over 30 bps. He recently purchased a pair of albinos. What is really interesting about that is that a white snake is like a white shirt. If you spill something on a white shirt, it really shows. Same thing with a white snake. The female has a tendency to look really nasty, I mean REALLY nasty, after defecating in her enclosure. In fact, she had a bath this morning to clean the "stuff" off her. More of a shower really. Held her over the sink, and used my wet hand to loosen the "grime", then rinsed her off. So... if you can see it on a white snake, and not on a brown snake, does that mean its not there on the brown snake??? Outa sight, outa mind??? Even more reason to be sure to wash your hands after handling your brown snake????
Second bath scenario - I can't remember if its the Barkers at VPI, or the Sutherlands at Snake Keeper, and I don't want to go watch the videos right now. But, the video recommends bathing a female immediately after removing her eggs to an incubator, and thoroughly cleaning her enclosure to remove any smell of the eggs. Helps the "mom" adjust to "losing" her babies, and gets her back to business as usual much quicker.

Re: Bath???
When you soak or bathe your snake should the water be warm or room temp? What's the best temperature?

The temp should fall in the normal range for a ball python 80-90 degrees would be perfect. You really don't want it to warm or to cold. ;)

Re: Bath???
I agree with everyone...bathing isn't necessary all the time, but if your bp turns out anything like mine it will lay in its pee in its secure home. That's gross!! I always give mine a quick bath with some gentle/antibacterial/baby (I'm too lazy to get up and find out what it's called, but I'll let you know later :) ) soap, that the vet said was fine to use, after every poop/pee and give him a soak if he has any problems having a complete shed. I really don't think that it is a bad thing to bathe them it will even help moisturize their scales if humidity isn't always "on spec".
