Re: Eating in the hide...
You can just get a big box...take your little fella out of the cage, and put him in the box, and then you can proceed with feeding. once he's done, completely done...and he's licking his lips...put him back in his cage
Re: Eating in the hide...
Using a box is how i feed him now.. im wondering why everyone else uses there cage and if it is ok for me to do it also?
Re: Eating in the hide...
It was believed, and I think disproven, that bp's will be trained to think that every time you open your cage, it's feeding time. There's been a number of people around here that have not had that problem, me for instance. I fed inside the cage as well as in a box and noticed no change in aggressive behavior when the cage was opened.
Are you feeding live or p/k? If live, just drop him in and watch the feeding, make sure everything goes OK. If p/k...I would usually remove the hide (if he was in the hide) to wake him up...and then dangle the mouse/rat in front of him..and he would strike and eat...when he was done i would carefully scoot him over, put his hide back in where it was, and then he'll normally find his way back.
I can't help but use Adam (8 bp) as an example. He feeds hundreds of snakes ever week inside their enclosure and As far as I know, no problems have come about.
Re: Eating in the hide...
Kyle, will you be at the show in Daytona this weekend? You will be able to personally ask Adam of 8 ball pythons. Any other questions you have, i guarantee he will give you one of the best answers.
Re: Eating in the hide...

Re: Eating in the hide...
Awsome... this is great because I'm at work right now... in Daytona! LOL anyway thanks for the number. Im sure it is safe to assume I can bring my babies? I will give you a call around 5 o clock to see if your there or will be there... it would be odd to meet someone from this site.
Re: Eating in the hide...
lol not odd at this event. there's atleast 10-15 people from this site that have confirmed their attendance this evening.
I see a lot of people that bring their reptile to events. I don't think there is a rule against it.
Re: Eating in the hide...
So it start at about 7 o clock tonight.. me and my fiance will be there!!! Only issue is the schedule does not tell me where it is at??? have you been there before? Could you explain some direction perhaps? Are you bringing any of your pets?

I had trouble finding the location too, but if you go to driving directions, it gives you directions to the place.
Unfortunatly for me I had to sell my babies about a year ago. I moved to Orlando from Arkansas for college and they told me i can't have them...but i'm still lurking around this forums :P
Re: Eating in the hide...
OHHH it's at the Ocean Center I know exactlty where that is. So are you definitely going to be there mr veteran?
What about admission?
Re: Eating in the hide...
Here are the rules from the Daytona show as as well as the entry fees, etc. You cannot bring any of your own snakes or any other live animal to this show. While some small, regional shows might allow that not many of the bigger, more professional shows would due to health concerns, etc. Daytona from the pics I've seen is a packed, madhouse and the biggest of the big shows. It wouldn't be a good environment for your snake to be walking through with you anyways.

Re: Eating in the hide...
Visitors:
1) Admission is $10 per person; children six years and under attending with an adult are free.
2) Your Expo wristband must be worn in plain sight and is your pass to all Expo functions Saturday and Sunday. Wristbands cannot be shared or resold.
3) Baby strollers are not allowed in display area.
4) No smoking inside the Ocean Center.
5) No live mammals or birds are allowed inside the Expo.
6) Only official exhibitors are permitted to sell animals at the Expo.
7) All animals must be kept in secure containers.
8) Animals taken out of the display area cannot be returned.
9) If you choose to take reptiles to your hotel, please do so discreetly. Use boxes that are not clear. Many hotels have rules against animals in rooms. If you are discreet and put a “Do Not Disturb” sign on your door, you should not have a problem.
Tha is the rule for vistors.. so im assuming you can bring your herps.. (not mammals) only if they are kept contained? (hence, my fiances purse) But perhaps yo are right about my snake being in that environment for to long.
Re: Eating in the hide...
Thanks for the correction.
Re: Eating in the hide...
Well if everyone is leaving ther pets at home what makes this expo so interesting and why is everyone so excited about it?

Because it is one of the largest gatherings of reptile keepers in the country. Do you really have to take your 'pet' snakes to a show to enjoy it? Actually, I think that even considering to do so is irresponsible on the keepers behalf. The show is a place to 'shop' for new reptiles and a place to interact with people that share a common interest.

I feed my BP in a seperate tub just so if there is any "mess" I can clean it up easier. Not for sure about the pluses or cons as far as aggressiveness goes though.
Peace
Re: Eating in the hide...
Just like with a major dog show you can't wander around with your pet dog from home. These are major breeders with quality stock they've invested years of work in and untold thousands of dollars in their time and the value of these gorgeous snakes.
Heck I have a small collection and I wouldn't let you walk into my snake room with your BP slung around your arm either (don't mean to come off as rude but I'm a stickler for quarantine and disease transmission as most of us are).
