MKR Mojaves Price Drop (poll)

After MKR dropped the price of Mojaves to: $800.00 Shipped

Will or would you do business with them?

I cant vote because I have never heard of this MKR guy/girl.

I would buy from them or be willing to give any honest breeder a chance to earn my business. As long as they produce and deliver, healthy, great quality snakes and provide good customer service before, during and after the sale.

These are qualities I look for when purchasing:
I want to buy direct from the breeder themselves.
I want good quality, healthy, honestly represented snakes.
I want good, honest and prompt service before, during and after the sale.
I want a guarantee and someone willing and able to back it up, if needed.
I want competitive pricing! Yes, I want competitive pricing!

Now, if a breeder meets and/or exceeds these specification and just happens to provide me with a great deal in which he/she saves me a couple hundred or a couple thousand dollars or even the lowest price around....Damn them! Damn them to Hell!

LOL...I'm not defending MKR, but I have yet to read or hear anything negative about their service or quality of snakes. If someone can show me something different, please do so? So far, I believe their only crime is selling some snakes at a lower price, right?

I believe alot of opinions would be changed if they had just purchased mojaves or lessers from them the year before. Competitive pricing yes, rock bottom screw everyone else pricing, NO.

I'm just wondering, how are they screwing everyone else by selling cheaper morphs?

Either he can breed and sell them at that price and make $, which assuming he has an appropriate standard of animal welfare I can't see any problem with, or he is selling them too cheap and will eventually collapse.

Mututally agreeing to keep the price high between breeders is kind of a cartel situation, no?

That is called 'price fixing' and is very illegal here in the US if it can be proven.

One of my largest competitors, in my field, was caught doing this with a few others and they are still in court after 4 years. We are guessing it will not end very pretty. I know for sure that they have spent way over what they made on that particular product line, in legal fees.

I voted NO!! I did this for one reason and MKR made this decision for me.They made a comment of why they were selling majoves so low.This comment was "these are the ugly majoves we are selling" also "also so anybody can own a majove even though they are below average".Now if they are stating these majoves are the ugly ones then what does that say about there blood lines? When i go to buy a snake i look for several things I.E. genetics,looks and the sellars response to my questions.I have walked away from people when i ask a question of why there snakes are way lower then others.Some say things like "i getting tired of feeding it","i am tired of looking at it" and a few others.Now IF i had been interested in buying something from MKR in the near future there comments about the majoves being ugly as there reason for low balling everyone.I would not even mention there name or even look at there site!! This is exactly what i am doing.As far as everyone fighting and stuff with each other it is silly.Why fight with each other MKR are the ones who low balled everyone right before Daytona.

I was unaware of any such comments being made and this would be more disturbing to me than lower prices, if these comments were in fact made! Any breeder that would speak this way about their snakes should not be breeding snakes period!

I read this on Ralph Davis forum in a thread just like the ones here.I do not understand why everyone is getting mad at each other.Like i stated by MKR talking the way they did about the snakes they were selling is the reason i WILL NEVER deal with them.

I'm just catching up on a lot of reading on the other forums and other issues regarding MKR. The more I read about this situation, the more my opinion of MKR changes.

As I said before, I can not consider anyone a bad guy just because they sell for less. But, I will not do business with someone who disregards their snakes and their customers so blatantly! The jury is still out!

Guy's I would love to hear from someone who purchased a mojave from MKR. I'd like to know how they feel about the whole situation , are they happy with their purchase did MKR do everything the right way? Now the whole ugly comment , I hope we're wrong about that.

I have no problem with them selling at that price. This is america and people are free to set their own prices. As far as the ugly comment. It sounds like they were saying what they thought. It could of been said a little better like "lower color quality", buts its nothing different than any other breeder that price grades their snakes.

from an investment view, i will only support breeders that will support me and my goals! so no mkr for me!!!

He is making payments on a pair if i remember correctly.

Will it really make a difference to anyone if you paid $1000 out of pocket more for a morph, just because? How exactly will that support your goal when it comes time for you to sell that morph in 1-2-3yrs?

Let me guess, "because it helps hold prices for me when I have babies to sell", right? Tell that to everyone who bought high dollar morphs last year or even six months ago...


I'd like to see you go back and tell certain breeders, and explain to them that since you paid them $1000 over what others were asking because you supported our goals last year! That today they should in turn buy back your snakes for at least $1000 over what others are advertising...what do you think?

Prices will drop, prices will continue to drop because of supply & demand or just greed or out of necessity! Some prices will drop faster and harder than others! The only decisions you need to make and make them before spending a penny, is what are your expectations as a whole and what can you live with?

For those who are knee deep in credit card debts or mortgaged their homes betting on a one clutch return, OUCH! Jimmy and MKR have some advise for you!

For those who planned and can hold out a bit longer and are thinking long term Vs One clutch returns, good for you!! You'll be just fine, go out have a nice weekend at Daytona and look for some cool morphs at some great prices!!

Scales, just a heads up, making statements like that on a public forum is really bad marketing to potential customers looking to make an investment with you...

Why? I really don't understand what's wrong with what he said...It all seems like common sense to me...

Well from what I can gather he didn't state that before the sale (MKR), That they were a sub-par animal.

What is upsetting to people is that 6 months ago people bought the same snakes from the same breeder for 4 to 8 times the current price. Were not talking an increase in supply or drop in production price that causes a drop in value. the drop in the value was cause simply due to the fact that he felt that the current market was limited and needed a boost. So you flood the market and cause other people to do the same.

By lowering the price he is selling 40 to 50 animals a year at $800.00 = $40,000.00 insteed of selling 1 or 3 maybe at 10 to 15,000.00. The number of snakes sold balances out the price.

Its poor marketing. Change price after a set time period or when the demand for the animals is high enough that the price drop want effect the market. Selling a snake for 15,000.00 and the next week selling it for 800.00. What do you do to the people making payments on a 15,000.00 snake refund all but 800.00 of it. That I doubt

I can imagine thats a real sucker punch but isnt that the way of capitalism sometimes? High price morphs seem to me to be like investing in highly volatile shares - you may get rich but you could equally get badly burned.

Beyond this specific spat - can the mega bucks some morphs fetch really be sustained long term? The market for 5 digit priced snakes has got to be restricted to only the very wealthiest hobbiests or to professional breeders. As the rare morph alleles diffuse out through the captive gene pool the number of morphs hatching will increase dramatically and the price cannot remain anywhere close.

For people like me who will only ever keep a small number of balls it looks like the rpice of some of those beauties may eventually fall within my pocket - kinda democratising the ball python community!

Please dont take this as an attack on anyone or anything - just an outside novice POV.

You're absolutely right, but it ultimately comes down to "buyer beware"...would you buy a used car without seeing it? Even if the seller tells you how nice it looks?

It doesn't seem anyone is giving him much of a welcome anywhere!

I don't understand why this has become such a huge deal. They have the right to set their prices wherever they want. Yes, it may complicate things for other breeders, but complaining about it or boycotting them won't do anything. All anybody can do is ride it out. If it is a case where they are just trying to unload the last of this year's stock then next year things should start out normal. I'm not a breeder so this issue doesn't affect me at all, but if I was, I wouldn't worry unless they set those as their permanent prices.

It all comes down to personal opinion. I've been reading these threads from the beginning and nothing has been rammed home! A couple people have their panties in a wad because a used car salesman had a snake sale. That's pretty much the end of story, unless your into conspiracy theories...

i dont know exactly where i stand. if i were a breeder selling my snakes for what they were worth and someone like mkr comes along and sells them a 1000 under priced just because they could i would be mad because i may not be able to do because i have a family to feed and bills to pay. i dont think thats fair to the other breeders, but mkr can do what they want. its there business and they can sell there animals for however much they want i guess. :confuzd:

Yes I am paying for 5 snakes from jow and wes. I already recieved a snake from them a few months back on a different payment plan. He is doing great and should breed this season and I should make my money back for sure if he breeds. I think that the quality and the care they give their animals is A++. Just my opinion.
