Incubator?
Hi I was wondering where in the incubator to place the fan? The incubator is like Cueballs. It is an apartment sized refridge turned into an incubator. Thank you.

I will take some better pictures for you this evening. This works great for a small number of clutches and is easy to make.

There are a couple of tricks you need to know about the fan. I would use a small fan intended for use with a computer. These will require an adapter to convert to your home 110 volt electrical system unless you can find one that will plug directly into 110. I have heard that Radio Shack might offer this type. The other thing you need to know about the fan is that it requires a couple of inches of air space behind the fan to work properly. So if you are going to mount to the top of your incubator you will need to make a spacer.
About the plexiglass. I would use two sheets. One on the outside and one on the inside of the door. The air space between them will serve as an insulator and reduce the temp fluctuation. Seal the inside sheet with silicone.
I hope this helps :gj:

Re: Incubator?
i would try and hang it from the top (heat rises) so this would circulate the warmer air and humidity. the temps and humidity will be consistent. the cpu fans are plenty to move a little air in a small bator.
brad, posts some bator pics.

I know, I keep thinking 'hey, I'm close enough that I could lure him to my house with BBQ and beer!' hehe

Re: Incubator?
It is a 4 inch fan from walmart and it has a little stand so it will have space. SHould I mount it to the tob and make it shoot the air down at an angle? There will be 1 piece of plexiglass on the inside. I will Silicone it on the inside and outside. It will be held to the door with heavy duty liquid nails. How many feet of flexwat should I use? It will be on a Helix control. Thank you.

I hear that is how he got Jimmy into his basement... so Im not sure if he would fall for the same thing

Re: Incubator?
Is 3 feet of flexwatt enough? I also got the fan mounted to the top of the incubator.

You might want to hook the fan up to an inline dimmer. You just need a small amount of air movement to stabilize the temps. Too much air movement and you run the risk of de humidifying. I would also really urge you to put a second sheet of plexi on the outside. You will hold the temps much better with that form of air insulation.

That depends on the size of the Flexwatt and the size of the incubator. Three feet of the 11" should work fine for a small fridge setup. Three feet of the 3" might overtax the Flexwatt depending on how insulated the fridge is and how much space it has to heat.
Personally, I don't think it really matters where you mount the fan. In such a small enclosure, the air will be well blended no matter where you place it. It's a good idea to angle it, though, just to prevent any warm or cool spots.

One thing that will add some safety to your setup. Get your flexwatt, loosely place in the incubator and plug it in direct with no thermo. Measure the temps. Reduce the length of the flexwatt until you are at ~95 degrees. This way if your thermo ever fails you will be less likely to cook your eggs :gj:

Another tip you might consider is to use Glad Press and Seal to cover your egg container. This way you won't have to worry about keeping the entire incubator humid. The only thing is that you will have to open up the seal every week or so to exchange the air and let the eggs breath a little bit. :)

Re: Incubator?
If I added a piece of plexiglass the distances inbetween the 2 pieces would be 1/8 of an inch or less. I will be using 11 inch flexwatt. You have me confused about the flexwatt thing about the 95 degrees.
