I like the obviously NOT CLEAR belly pic. That's seriously sad if some sucker pays 6k or even trades so much as a normal female for that.

Not to mention its probably a male anyway, lol....

So what does he assume makes it special??? On his wesite he has some morphs, and at least appears to be breeding. Is there some coloration we are missing here???

Lol, yes they do. On Bob Clark's website, he's selling Lavender Albino males for $20,000 and females for $15,000. $5000 more, just because it's a male?!?

Remember that these animal are relatively new to the scene and very few people are buying the super high end stuff as pets and intend on breeding them to generate a return.

Does buying 20K of google stock disgust you also?????

No you shouldn't be discusted at morph prices, people put a lot of work into producing them and they have every right to charge what they think is right. It's up to the buyers out there to decide if it is worth it!

IF this is a morph, you would think hed say so...It seems like just a big normal Ball Python..Dont get me wrong I love BPs, but I would think anyone prepared or willing to spend $6,000 on a snake would know enough to know they were getting shafted.
Maybe it was a typo?? LOL Otherwise this guy is a ripoff and shouldnt be allowed to advertise, there are enough rip off artists on Kingsnake and in the herp world as it is.

I really don't get it. Besides the flames and light head (which are pretty common), what else am I not seeing here? Surely there was something on that snake that he thought was extra special.

I don't think so. In his other ad, he's selling a CH unproven reduced pattern male for $450. Besides, why would he sell a 1500 gram "morph" for $600 if it was a typo? I doubt if he's trying to rip anyone off, but it seems like he just doesn't know the value of snakes or how to recognize a morph. Then again... maybe I don't.

because with a male you can serve multiple female normals or other lav albs and get multiple babies. it works like that.

This is exactly what I was talking about in my post in the ‘morph’ section. For someone like me who is just getting into BP’s , what markings make a good snake?????? What are breeders striving for??? Like the one answer I got ‘if you like it and are willing to pay for it, it does not matter’. This is true, to an extant.

If I was total new comer to the snake world, I might look at that ad and wonder why other normals sell so cheap…..

In the corn snake world it is pretty clear when a new ‘type’ is developed. But you also get those that make up names for things that don’t exist just to have something different……… like the snake pictured in this ad.

I don't think it's any different in the Ball Python world. Most morphs are very obvious with the exception of the Yellow Belly. However, Ball morphs are relatively new and a lot of people hope to find a new morph by selecting a normal with different markings and proving them out. That's where people will look for reduced patterns, stripes, clear bellies and even spots on the nose. You might get lucky and come across a het for something special that has a unique marker like the Spotnose. However, it's more common to just find a cool snake that might be genetic like one with a stripe, black back, or a reduced pattern.

On my other post, I was asking why there is such a price difference on normals, prices are all over the place. And some of the strange names folks are calling normals. Besides stripes and yellow bellies are there any other patterns that are dom or rec?

BTW, I did not mean to 'hi-jack' this thread, but I have a lot interest in this, as we plan to build our colony over the next few months. My corn & milk projects are just about mature at this point.

Ha. Jason wants $6K for that snake.

He was offering me imports for $8 a head a few months ago.
If it looks any different that the typical BP pattern, then it's labeled a morph nowadays. I wouldn't be surprised if he got that one in for less than $50.

Be careful with stripes....there are stripes which are just abnormal normals and there are Genetic stripes.....genetic stripes look nothing like those abnormal normals.

Ball python mutations are funny when talking about 'pattern' or 'color' mutation since most morphs vary off the normal ball python in both color and pattern. A mojave or cinny may be a color mutation in some people's views but their patterns' are also very different than normals. Spiders and Pinstripes may be considered a pattern mutation but they are very different in color than normals. The best thing to do is look at pictures of everything to get a good perception of whats out there....even compare the morph pictures to normals.

Here are some great websites to check out ball python morphs:

Daniel gave a lot of great links. There are a lot of morphs out there, and the best place to learn about them is on the BIG breeders sites. People will often find something different and label it as a new morph before it's proven, or will breed out a so-so looking morph and give it a jazzy name. The best thing to do is browse the big breeder sites or check out all the picks on forums such as this one and KS, then decide which one you like the best and work towards that goal. Don't be duped into "getting in on the ground floor" from a Jimmy with a slightly different looking CH Ball that they just picked up for $10. Some normal Balls will fetch a higher price depending on how they look whether they're a reduced pattern, stripe, etc. but they shouldn't cost much more than a normal.
