i picked up two nice sized white's tree frogs today... one is more brown and the other is green. we are guessing they are a male and female. ;)

named both of them jimmy... :D cause i lub jimmy!

i popped some crickets in their viv tonight and tomorrow i'll start feeding them silkworms! i can't wait to hear them croak!!!

Those are cool; my friend had one at her pet store for awhile (he sold pretty fast) and it was just the coolest looking treefrog ever! I love the size they attain.

Ours go from almost lime green to dark brown. Stress can cause a color change. If my 2 are sitting out in their pool looking so green, They will turn brown if they realize my eyes are on them.Eventually they crawl out of the pool back to their log. If I ignore them they will stay green and stay in the pool. The smaller, shyer one spends more time than the bigger one being brown. Maybe a little intimidated by larger one. What is cute is all 3 frogs in pool, butts facing in almost like a clover leaf!!:)

30"W x 26"H x 12"d screen top terrarium. I think it is more for lizards. The screening makes for a challenge to keep the humidty up. I use repti bark subtrate with one end having moist moss and a lrg. pool. Only bottled water.
I have no heat this time of year the room is temp. controlled.Lots of fake foilage and 3 hides. and their lights. We have had them for at least 2 years. We have one chubby and 2 whites in the enclosure. We spritz everyone about 4-5 times daily. That seems to keep it all going. The moss helps retain the moisture also.
We feed crickets, mealworms and pinkies,

well jimmy and james are shy... or i would take a photo... they are hiding under the moss.

so you use hides? do they actually use them or are they just in there? cause mine seem to loooove being under the moss.

mine are in (for now) a medium exo-terra with two live plants, dirt on the bottom (sterile) and moss. we live in high humidity but i also use a mister from the hardware store (to spray pesticides) as it really gives a nice spray. it was bought for this purpose so no pesticides have ever been used in it (besides i don't believe in using pesticides so no worries there... we are organic here!)

hmmmmmm... i'll find my old pic of the viv... ah here it is! we don't have the waterfall in there though cause it sucked!!!

Love that backdrop.Nice setup,:D Happy frogs!!:D We don't have that backdrop, mostly plants. 2 of mine hide in a fake log, chubbs likes to burrow under the pool. They have gotten used to me sitting at the computer and will sit in the pool and serenade each other. It took almost a year before they would continue their vocals while i was walking in. We would hear them and try and catch a peek of who was doing it.Sneak into the room, silence.

    Re: white's tree frogs
The background is part of the enclosure... the exo terras come with them.

Our green tree frogs are in an enclosure which is twice the size. They prefer to live on the glass but so far these two are burrowing... although when they were in the petstore they were up on the glass in plants. I'm going to add some plants on the side of the enclosure to see if that makes them happy.

White's have HUGE appetites and yes, if it fits in their mouth ...... they'll eat it. We have an 18"x18"x24"H Exo Terra with a White's Tree Frog in it. We've made two attempts at trying to keep a gecko in with him, but they have disappreared within one week, and no they didn't escape.

Our's calls nearly every night after we mist the viv and turn out the lights. I was wonding if only the males call??? Does anyone know?

It's been pretty boring around here tonight, cold and rainy October Friday night, so I decided to get the camera out and snap a few.

This is my son's Exo Terra that he has his White's Tree Frog in. Sorry I didn't get any pics of his WTF. He was WELL camoflaged and hiding well tonight, couldn't find him for a pic.

Anyways, here's a few pics of his viv (18"x18"x24"H).

I have had my boy/girl? for 2 years. Got him August 28th, 2004 and he was 1/2" long. I'm thinking he(she...) is a female because there hasn't been any calling. Murphy is now about 3.5-4" SVL and just a pleasure to have and handle. He/she is in a 20g tall naturalistic tank that I need to take pictures of.

Not hard at all, dont think I would try it in Pa. with the cool nites. cape may county, N.J. is perfect weather in the summer. just need to make some panels with 1/2 inch hardware cloth screening to keep the birds and anything else out that would eat them. this will be my 3rd year with these, produced 100"s of babies last summer. :)

I would personally fear keeping mine outside in a pond. I would be afraid in fall it would be too difficult to find all of them and my frogs are first and foremost, pets.

Very nice frogs sisco, not a problem at all keeping them outside in extreme southern jersey. the benefits outweight the risks. They absolutly thrive outside. constantly feeding on wild insects. one of the keys is a small pond so it can be totally inclosed so nothing can eat them and they can't get out. late in the summer there are hundreds of baby frogs. at some point I deciede its time to bring them in for the winter, the ponds get drained to remove the tadpoles so they dont freeze to death in the winter. I have been doing this for years and its most enjoyable sitting out at nite listening to the frogs singing. :P

If its too cold in maine to keep your frogs out all the time, try and put them out on the warmest days and you will see the benefits of the sun immediately. :)

It sounds like a great idea. I am sure I would fret a bit at first. Do you have a picture or two of your outside pond so that I may get some ideas.

I keep my tegu lizards outside all summer. The summers in Maine are hot and humid during the day and nice and warm at night (fan or A/C running inside just to sleep). I do not think temps or humidity would be an issue. As stated above. I would love to see how your outside pond enclosure is set up. Perhaps I will set something up outside and try a few of my frogs outside. I have 11 adult WTF's that I have inside in various naturalistic enclosures with UVB, but there really is no substitute for natural sunlight.

Ed, this sounds like a lot of fun to me too but being in MN I don't know how long they could be out, maybe only 2-3 months of the year. What kind of temp extremes can they handle? How big are your ponds and enclosures? Do you hang up any lights for heat or to attract bugs? What do you feed during the summer months? You've always had great looking frogs, this outdoor living must be pretty agreeable to them.
