Re: Mesh screen terrariums
I am going to go out on a limb here and say no. The only way that could happen would be in a humidity/heat controled room with no A/C and very little if any air circulation. Get a Sterilite if your wanting something bigger. How big is your snake?
Re: Mesh screen terrariums
around 2ft,how do you keep sterilites heated?wouldn't an undertank heater melt the plastic or something?

One of the worst possible things that you can use to keep a snake in.

Not if you cover the whole thing in saran wrap and duct tape! ;)

ooh iv'e got some of those in my garage
Re: Mesh screen terrariums
you'll need to drill holes for air and get a thermostate for the heat tape and you should be set.
Re: Mesh screen terrariums
ok, thanks for all the help everyone.
Re: Mesh screen terrariums
Ohhhhhhhhhhh...Mr Python that is a stunningly beautiful wooden viv you've got up top there!
No, definately no mesh. Difficult if not impossible to maintian the correct envirnmental conditions and I would imagine that it would be east for the snake to make/find a little hole in the mesh to get out of.
I currently have a 10 gallon with a screen top and I can't wait to move my guy out of there. I'm waiting on supplies to arrive and then I have a plastic tub waiting for him. I plan to use a UTH plugged into a light dimmer to control the temp and prevent the plastic from getting heat damage. If you get a clear tub you can still use it as a display too. I got mine from the Container Store and the plastic is very clear and they have clear lids as well. The lids don't snap down securely enough, but I've got mini bungee cords to "lock" the lids in place.
Re: Mesh screen terrariums
A UTH controlled with a thermostat poses no danger in melting the plastic - it would have to be pretty darn hot to melt, too hot for your snake.
Here are a few set-ups I use:
For a baby to about 300 or 400 grams they'll stay in these 15 quart tubs from Dollar General. These now have two flower pot saucer type hides and the green hides are gone - when they get bigger, they'll get two of the green hides.

For Juvies, my tubs that aren't in racks are set up like this:

For adults my tubs are set up like this:

Re: Mesh screen terrariums
I use an aquarium with a screen top and have no problem maintaining the temp. I mist some moss once a day or once every other day and I cover most of the top with a towel. Everyone is at work during the day so no ac!! Humidity always between 40-50 per.

Someone correct me if I'm wrong but, I thought BP's needed humidity levels at 50-60%?? (and maybe even higher when in shed)
