    Fishtank Foto Fest! (DU warning)
Here are our aquariun friends; first off is the wild 125g that Mark calls his (though I invaded it with fish in the last few years; he originally just had his Oscar and a pleco!) We have had this setup for over three years now with no problems; the occupants are one albino Oscar who is so unaggressive, he gently eats his feeder fish; one livingstoni and one other cichlid (think the scientific name is kimbell something); two plecos (one over 13 inches) one unidentified catfish, and four clawed frogs. I myself would never have thought a tank like this could work out without any casualties, but there's been no damage so far; the occupants eat their feeders and food and never bother each other.

The whole thing; with a sleepy Marky in front!

Here are my other 2 tanks; the bedroom one houses the HUGE "Mega Fewd!"

Both sharks. One is a brownbanded and the other is a whitespotted.

The brown sac on the sand in one of the tank pics is the egg sac from that brownbanded shark. Hatched both of them.

Those frogs are PIGS. That one is a little over 3 years old and it has grown huge in that time. My hand is next to the tank to give a size reference of it. Hard to believe those tiny little things you buy out of a ten gallon tank at the petstore can get that big.

If your frog is that big, chances are it's a female! Have you ever bred them? We had eggs last year and raised them (VERY demanding, the tads are tiny and susceptible to planarian infections.) Now I guess any eggs would be eaten up before they could hit the tank floor, lol.

The other cichlid is a red fin boreyli. The catfish looks like a pictus or a 4 line pictus.

Never tried. I have bred firebelly frogs in the past. The call that the male makes over and over and over again is loud and really gets on your nerves. After having about 100 of the little ones and the male actually killing one female by basically drowning it while on top "doing the deed", I decided to stop breeding them.

thanks! 55g is actually my favorite size; not too huge that it can't be moved (empty!) by me alone, but not tiny either.
I love the 125 though; got a sweet deal on it used. Mark built the stand.

i think i like the look of our 135g the best with the sand as substrate with the frontosas in it... but size wise... my 77g is my favorite. ;)

the 210g is most people's favorite - they love the way it's as long as the couch and how you can view it as you come up the stairs into the living room...

i think a tank which can hold a decent amount of fish, which IMO is no smaller than a 55 is best :) funny how the bigger the tank, the smaller the fish look!

    ps i love your avatar!

heehee that wasn't me marshall... but yes, you sure can. i believe they don't get that large 18" (i could be wrong here though) - buying shark eggs is really common in the salt water hobby.

Marshall, the banded cat shark can and will get 3 feet in length...as well as the other shark. A minimum size tank for one would be 180 gallons...but even that would eventually be too small.

    Here's my two tanks.

My 75 gallon saltwater mixed reef system:

And my favorite all time fish!
    http://i78.photobucket.com/albums/j1...s/100_2339.jpg

And here's my 46 gallon planted Discus and dwarf cichlid tank. Just started in the second week of June, so the plants have a lot of growing in to do. I've already had one successful kribensis spawn in my tank.
    http://i78.photobucket.com/albums/j1...s/100_2352.jpg

    http://i78.photobucket.com/albums/j1...s/100_2350.jpg

And here's a good shot of one of my favorites in this tank...Apistogramma hoignei tucupita, specifically the male.
    http://i78.photobucket.com/albums/j1...s/100_2355.jpg

    This tank also contains:
    x1 Red Turquoise Discus
    x1 Blue Angel Discus
x4 Anamalochromis thomasi (moving to 30g that is currently cycling)
x4 Pelvicachromis sp. Blue/Green dorsal (rare!) (Moving to 30 gallon)
    x2 Pelvicachromis pulcher
    x2 Apistogramma hoignei tucupita
x4 Apistogramma viejita red/gold (moving to 30g currently cycling)
    x9 Rummynose Tetras
    x5 Corydoras aeneus
    x3 Otocinclus
    x1 Bristlenose pleco
    x6 Cardinia japonica (AES)
    And tons of plants!

Don't worry about the bioload, it will be cut down in a few days. I have a vigorous water change regime in which I complete 30% water changes every four days on the tank to keep the discus and dwarf cichlids nice and happy.

ya marshall... i do have a 90g salt water tank but unfortunately it's not nearly as beautiful as the ones shown above!!!

salt water tanks go need time. mine is only 6 months old at this point... in another year or so... it'll be amazing! at the petstore i used to work at... there's a 125g salt water tank set up... it's been there over 7 years now... and man... it's a thing of beauty!!!

nice tanks jason! - since you seem to love cichlids... i have a good friend who deals in cichlids... here's his website... (very very very nice guy - i do all my cichlid dealings thru him - high quality and you can trust him completely!)

http://www.riftzoneaquatics.com/ (he's in vancouver bc canada and yes... he ships fish all the time! no problem with that.)

Re: Fishtank Foto Fest! (DU warning)
Thanks for the comments recycling goddess and Marshall. I consider my tank a never ending work in progress even though it is now two years old. For example, I haven't decided exactly what to do with the open left side of the tank...initially I left it for a nice big green saddle carpet anemone for my amphiprion percula pair...but I'd also love to use the open sand for some more tridacna clams (Maxima, Squamosa, Crocea, etc.) Also, I still have a lot of rockwork that has room to be covered by more corals...

Now that I have my new job I get livestock (Fresh & Salt) cherry picked for me for distributor costs so that's a definite plus to help my addiction. :)

Freshwater-wise I'm only going to deal for the time being with the soft acidic water South American dwarf cichlids, and West African dwarf cichlids. Rift lake cichlids would completely tear apart my planted tank, let alone the discus and all of thee other tank inhabitants. I do eventually plan to set up a Lake Tanganyikan cichlid display tank with some smaller shell dwellers, and medium sized fish.

I am in the progress of setting up two 30 breeder tanks, the one will be planted with dwarf cichlids. The other will be a SPS dominated saltwater tank with maybe two-three small fish. Eventually the room that these tanks are going in to will be my fish room where I plan to have as many tanks in the room that will fit.

i hear ya about the "work in progress" - i'm taking my salt apart tomorrow and resetting the rock... it collapsed today and so i'm going to do a huge overhaul tomorrow...

ah the work is never done!

I agree with you; we did a little tweaking with this tank over the years. We had Mega-Fewd, the giant goldfish, in the 120g originally; she was being harassed too much by the livingstoni (the other blue cichlid wasn't in there then,) so we got her into the 55g, where she made a complete recovery.
I think the person (besides us) who loves our tanks the most, is my little 18 month old niece; she STARES at them, giggles, points, laughs; my sister had to setup a 10g tank at their house for her, and she is mesmerized by it. Glad I could start a new generation on this stuff :)
My avatar is Benny, our horned frog; if you wanna see more of her, I posted in the Amphibians section.

i had a pacman frog... but she's moved on to be a star! (adopted by the movie industry) her name is princess louifee!

I guess the easiest thing to do is link to my fish gallery:

    http://i.ugtz.com/gallery/Jens-Fish-Stuff

you can click on subgalleries to expand them and there are page navigation tools on there for multiple page galleries.

I currently have a 180 Malawi hap tank
    1 75g Tanganyika
1 75g Hi-tech plant tank with misc fish
    1 75g lo-tech plant tank with angels
    1 10g shelldweller tank
    and I have a 30g, two 10's, and a 5g all empty/unused.

hoping to convert one plant tank to REEF next year, and convert one unused 10g to a terrarium setup this winter.

Sweet fish tanks, I love your setups on the big tanks. I plan to setup a bigger Tanganyikan tank sometime this year, as well as setting up a few racks full of 10s and 20s for breeding some of my dwarf cichlids. I like your Apisto cacatuoides male pictures, very beautiful! I loves me some soft water dwarves, both SA and West Africans. :)

    I currently have:
    1 pair Pelvicachromis pulcher (Kribensis)
2 pair Pelvicachromis sp. blue/green dorsal (kolente river)(very rare)
2 pair Anamalochromis thomasi (African Butterfly Cichlid)
    2 pair Apistogramma viejita red/gold
    1 pair Apistogramma hoignei tucupita

    I plan on picking up:
2 pair Apistogramma hongsloi (super red stroke)
    1 pair Apistogramma borelli (blue)
    1 pair Apistogramma sp. papagallo
1 pair Apistogramma viejita (rio meta)
    2 pair Laetecara dorsigera
    1 pair Hemichromis lifalili
    1 pair Nanochromis transvestitus
    1 pair Pelvicachromis rubrolabiatus
and a few more along the way. :P

I'll probably setup a 20 gallon shellie tank just for giggles w/ a trio of julidochromis transcriptus and a pair or two of Neolamprologous multifasciatus.

I should just change my name to aquarium_obsessed or aquanut.
