8 watts? Ionno but is that enough to even warm up a small tank? The one I use is 25 watts (max).

(please, don't take my word on this).

The use the latter (for my size, of course). How big is your tank? For a BP your size I'm assuming 20-30 gallons. Find one for that size (should be 10 bucks cheaper).

just make sure that you get a dimmer for it. a uth on full blast will usually get way to hot. by almost 30-40 degrees. the rheo stat by zoo med is awesome.

Yeah, almost forgot about that. But I think he asked a Q about that so it should already be established. :D

No. A rheostat is the same thing as a light-dimmer. It's a switch that you can use to control the amount of electricity flowing through an object such as a lightbulb or heating pad. It does not control the temperature, only the maximum heat that the pad can put out.

A THERMOstat will measure the temperature of the item it is controlling and adjust itself accordingly to maintain a specific temp.

The UTH by Exo-Terra comes in many different sizes just like the ZooMed UTH. You just have to look for the size that is rated around 55 gallons for your tank. The Exo-Terra UTH is what I use as it is ultra-thin compared to the ZooMed ones and Exo-Terra UTHs have lasted longer in my experience. Remember that the UTH should only heat up 1/3 - 1/2 of the tank so that a 'warm' side is provided.
