Feeding Story
Finally it has been a week, well a little longer (10 days) since we brought home Squeeze. Now it’s time to give feeding a try. I decided to try live feeding since that is how the breeder has been feeding my BP. I had him show me what to do in case of a problem.
We’ll skip the visit to the pet store. I arrive home with a live small rat in a box and place the box next to Squeeze’s enclosure. I wait approx. 30 minutes then open the enclosure and Squeeze appears to be searching for something. I drop the rat in and “bam” in less than a minute the rat has been overtaken and is going down for the count (KTFO). It was an awesome sight. No problems were observed as I watched intensely with my tongs in my hand. (Jeez I feel like a kid on Christmas.)
After the constriction was done it only took about ten minutes for him to swallow the rat. Amazing. I have seen snakes eat on video, but never in person. It was neat to watch the rat move down the body.
Now the 48 hour countdown until short periods of handling start.
Sorry this was long, I was so excited I just wanted to share. To quote my wife “How lame, you’re a grown man acting like a six year old.” What can I say, that’s my personality –“BIG KID”

Re: Feeding Story
Congratulations! I bet you jumped when he struck too, didn't you? Admit it! I still do, even when I know it's coming. It's wonderful to see such a nice feeding response!

Re: Feeding Story
To be honest, the strike happened so fast, I thought he missed, until I saw the head sticking out of the coils. Maybe if I had the lid off, my response would've been different, but I was also concerned the rat might jump out.

Re: Feeding Story
To be honest ive jumped a couple times when I first got my snakes. after a while you kinda get used to it but it still surprises me sometimes

Re: Feeding Story
Thank you, my avatar is one of my favorite pictures of my kids. I think it shows their personality, my daughter is an angel and my son is a little devil  . At least for now!!!

Re: Feeding Story
Congrats! I'm so glad you got a great feeding response. And yes, it is an exciting sight. Watching your scalekid eat for the first time is the most amazing experience, probably up until they mate, lay eggs...Yeah. Isn't owning these beautiful reptiles the most rewarding ever?!

I'm "The Crazy Snake Lady" at work. I rant and rave about them...a lot.

I still jump .... no doubt about it.
And congrats on the first feed, I always feel better when I get them to eat the first time in their new "digs".
