Well you're comparing apples to oranges really. If a small mouse is $1.50 and a small rat is around $3.00 that makes sense since that small rat is going to be a lot bigger and cost more for the pet store to feed and house (less per tank) than the small mouse. If you wanted the same prey volume of a small rat you'd have to buy more than one of those $1.50 mice.

I have a choice of many pet stores in my area, but one store is unbeatable! Mice of all sizes-$1.00 and rats of all sizes-$2.00. Yes, I know, even jumbos!

I would call around to different shops and find out each ones price before you drive to a shop and then find out there was a cheaper place. Theres one shop here that gets $10 for a single small rat.

Holy crap, for $10 I'd want it to be able vacume the house, do the dishs, laundry and then jump right with the snake!

They are entitled to charge whatever they want, it's up to people to use common sense and shop around. I don't think a place should be shut down because of their prices.

Well even though I hated to pay $5.00 for a live rat back when I bought from pet stores, if you are only buying one a week for your pet snake it's still a darned cheap pet really. Show me a dog or cat you can own for $5.00 a week in food LOL.

Normaly if there prices are to high they shut there own doors as a going out of bussiness. We have one here that has prices that are ridiculesly high.Say $180 for a baby boa :O .To make matters worse the owner refuses to allow the workers to feed the reptiles  .He also charges $6 and up for his mangy skinny rats!!

Try www.themousefactory.com Jessie. They are a great frozen supplier, you'll know exactly how many you are getting and their quality and shipping is top notch. I think they are actually having some sort of major sale right now according to their website.
