BTW, I was actually born in Texas. Has anyone been to the "Snake Farm" near San Antonio? That place is awesome. Got to see rattlers and crocs eat!

We used to live about 15 minutes away from the Snake Farm! Went there many times and had one of my daughter's birthday parties there. Somewhere, I've got pics of the kids with their giant albino burm draped over their little shoulders. Don't have those digitized, though.

They do have some questionable husbandry issues going on there, such as housing multiple snakes and/or enclosures that seem too small. But all the times I visited, everything was clean and everyone looked well fed and well taken care of. We got to see a young cobra hunt and kill its mouse...that was very cool because it would rise up and flare its head before each strike. (You'd think one strike would be enough, but that was one quick-moving and determined little mousie.)

Anyhow...yeah, I've been there. Overall it's a pretty neat place, despite some husbandry questions I have about it.

Hmmmm....let's see...we lived in San Antonio (Converse, to be more specific) from Nov '98 - June '03. Haven't been back since...but I would not be unhappy if hubby got stationed there again. :D

I grew up in the Dallas/Ft Worth area....lived there all my life until I married my Flyboy. ;) Which is why we go back in the summer time to visit family...which is why I'll be at the show in Arlington in a couple of weeks! :banana:

When I was there last year, they seemed pretty clean and healthy. There were a couple cages that housed 2 rattlers, and both burms were housed together. They had one big thin about 10 feet down in the inside of the building with probably 10 rattlers but it was large and clean. We got to see the rattlers eat and the crocs eat some frozen chickens. The largest croc got a prekilled rabbit, but it was hungry before so it grabbed a large turtle and tried chompin on that but the keeper guy finally got him to let go of it. It was pretty funny to watch!

Well I'll be bringing my husband and son, but my daughter works at the zoo on Saturdays. That's too bad, I know she would enjoy it, too. But, she's certified to handle all the animals in the children's section, including the snakes and spiders, so she won't be suffering.

This place is a hole. I'm sure other parts of Texas are better (I really like Huntsville), but CenTex is seriously ghetto/hick/nasty. I absolutely hate it here and can't wait to get back to Wisconsin. :bolt:

Hey guys...not sure if I should put this in the Classifieds section...there was an ad put in the Killeen Daily Herald on Sunday for a 5 to 5.5 foot female ball python. The lady wants $350 for her OBO. I called her today to talk to her, she said she's only selling her because she's adopting her grandchildren and isn't keen on having a large snake in the house with them. I wish I had the money to pick up such a huge girl, but I don't happen to have it right now, so I thought I'd pass the info on to all of you since you're in Texas. I know some of you are within driving distance to come pick her up. I doubt she ships. Here's the lady's number...I didn't catch her name, she has a real Texas drawl. :confused:
