It's Easter time!!!
Finally the wait is over. At day 35 after her pre lay shed she laid 8 great looking eggs. The mom did a great job and seems to be enjoying her chance to drink and roam around again. Now begins to insanely long ~60 wait for lil babies :D
A special thanks to all that have followed this :grouphug:
And an extra special thanks to Adam for easing my mind last night as I was dancing around in excitement :gj:
Enough jibber jabber...here are the pics :carrot:

The female is a burgundy hypo and the male was a het albino. So the babies will be 100% het burgundy and 50% het albino. Normal is appearance.
Lol...please have her look at my new avi. Much better for young eyes :D

Re: It's Easter time!!!
YAY Cue!! I am happy for ya. That looks like a nifty incubator; is that what you've used successfully in the past? I am havin' second thoughts about the one I have and may sell it and make one like that..
-
Re: It's Easter time!!!
Excuse my ignorance, but why don't you leave the eggs with the mother? Is it too risky?
and super duper congrats cue. Mom is gorgeous!
I shall dance too.

Re: It's Easter time!!!
Congrats Cue! Don't know how I missed this thread! She's a lovely looking female and she certainly gave you a beautiful looking clutch. Such a long time to wait though isn't it.

Most breeders incubate the eggs, to allow the female to begin eating at the earliest possible chance. A female on eggs is fasting for another 2 months, when she could be gaining back the significant weight loss experienced after laying. It allows minimal stress on the female, while also providing more stable environment for the eggs. Although this information is from my research, as I be breeding for the first time this fall. :D

Re: It's Easter time!!!
So how on earth do you pry the eggs from the mother? I am sure she isn't happy about it.

Thanks Jen! That is the same incubator that your lil gal was born in  If you like I will send you this incubator this fall. I will need something larger next year!

Like the wise tigerlily said. This gives mom a chance to get back to her normal life. As soon as I took the eggs away she drank for minutes!
Thanks for the dance :D

Re: It's Easter time!!!
I have a question also cue. What medium are you using? I noticed that you did not have the eggs directly in you medium but on a rack. Is there a reason or method to this?
(Just wondering, for future reference. I was suprised with eggs after buying my ball python from a pet stop and put my eggs directly in my medium; vermiculite/perlite/water. Sadly they didn't make it. :( )

The method I use is call substrate less incubation. The premise behind this is that you put the eggs on the crate and not the medium. Then under the crate you use a medium that is more heavily saturated with water. This allows you to keep the humidity very high without the eggs actually touching the medium. I think the eggs stay more hydrated and the babies are born larger with this method. I hope this helps.
I am sorry to hear about loss and the best luck next time!! :grouphug:

Re: It's Easter time!!!
Have you had much sucess with this method. I'm just got a male pastel from Vaughn and I may try to breed him with my normal female (when he's ready of course, he's still a hatchling :) ) This maybe something I might try.

I sure have! I have only incubated one other clutch of ball python eggs this way(a couple of months ago) and it worked perfectly. I totally think you should breed your pastel, he's a hottie :O
