    Just got 2 new rats!!
Even though I shouldn't have, I saw them and they were so cute. It was a reflex to buy them. Plus, not very often you find a pair of Hairless rats for 5$ each!!! Should be ready to breed soon. Not sure If I will let them breed or now, cute little guys though. I will get pics once I get my usb cable replaced

I hope that you do realize that hairless rats do NOT breed well and will usually not lactate, which means the mother will kill off the young. The birthing process also doesn't go well the majority of the time, usually resulting in the mother hemorrhaging and stillborns.

If you want hairless, breed the male hairless to a normal, haired female, and then breed the resulting females back to the father. This results in lactating mothers, healthier, bigger babies, and no killing of the babies. Since the first generation carried the hairless gene, but looked normal, breeding those females back to the father would result in about 50/50 hairless and normal that carry the gene.

That would be the best way to get hairless rats if you must have them. True hairless(hairless x hairless) are generally not healthy and do not have good immune systems, which results in alot of respiratory difficulty. I have a true hairless female here and she has alot of eye problems.

Please do not breed that female. It won't be a good outcome. Not to mention rats shouldn't be bred until they are at least 4-6 months old, depending on size and weight.

Thanks, I should have clarified this, didnt think it was a big deal. The male is a hairless X normal. They have been keeping and breeding a colony of hairles x normal rats for a few years that I know of with little problems. I'll let you guys know how it goes.

Just hoping that your female isn't hairless. If she's normal and carries hairless, however, everything should be just fine.

I don't have any hairless in my breeding colony, however once in awhile a hairless baby or two will pop up in a litter. Usually I give them away as pets to friends.

Hrm, 2 hairless females? Have you noticed how many nipples they nurse with? How large were their litters?

Many hairless females Ive seen only have a few milk sacs (is that the right term) and are only able to nurse so many.

IF she won't nurse them all the first time I MAY give her a second try. If not I'll just keep her as a pet because she is as sweet as can be. I was hand feeding her some of my feeder roaches last night. She likes them as much as the geckos do!! lol She has a full coat of hair that is very thin. Feels like when you get a buzz cut and the hair starts growing back. She's all black in color except for her feet being pink
