Not that you'd be recommending to some of the young & possibly impressionable users of these boards that they illegally download anything...right?

Re: Rediculus movie
Hey, that's no joke (illegal downloading.) Getting banned from the Internet is no fun.

Re: Rediculus movie
i bet the god of all of the snakes commanding the snakes to attack is a 30 foot ball python.......

Re: Rediculus movie
I'm going to go see it and not because I think it'll be good. I want to arm myself by watching this movie, so that the next time someone starts popping off at the mouth, I can explain to them that movies like this are one of the reasons they think snakes are so evil. Considering most of the snakes they had on the trailer were either animatronic or harmless colubrids and boids...yeah. You'd think Hollywood, with all of its desire to be seen as liberal and open-minded, would realize how detrimental movies like this can be.

Re: Rediculus movie
Can't wait to see this flick. Samuel L. Jackson and a bunch of snakes, what could be better? :D

I saw it... hate to say it, but the movie was a waste of money to see if you pay/paid IMO... I saw it for nothing..... Thankfully...
It was so cheesy and stupid, the snakes were not even that realistic and the way they portrayed the snakes is even worse for thier already cruddy image... I think the time and money spent producing this garbage could have been better spent producing something else..... heck, even a kids cartoon would be better than that movie.

Re: Rediculus movie
I'm looking forward to the movie. Of course its going to be stupid, heck most movies these days are, but i bet it'll be a fun kind of stupid. And in the movie they explain that snakes aren't normally that aggressive-The gangsters who put them on the plane drugged them. It's brilliant!(kidding) still i think it'll be fun.

Re: Rediculus movie
The movie's just a joke, I doubt this will harm the image of snakes. I'm pretty sure the reputations of snakes are pretty safe with this movie because it's just a big thriller genre parody. It looks silly, though, so I'm gonna go watch it.
A movie you need to watch out for is Boa vs. Python. It features such sweeping cinematic story arcs as an 80 foot python being imported to the US and escaping and being hunted by special forces... with an 80 foot boa.
A lot of movies that prominently feature snakes are just too silly to harm their image. I'd say more serious films that only misrepresent snakes for a short time are more harmful to the image.

Hey, didn't anyone inform them on the risks of IBD when combining pythons and boas? Yoinks! ;)

Re: Rediculus movie
LOL; I just watched the trailer and it is a real piece of work.. are those killer kingsnakes? Yowee!
-
Re: Rediculus movie
But there are shows on TV that actually portray snakes positively, warning you of potential threats and why some can get so nasty (defensive, not aggressive).
-
Re: Rediculus movie
I'm way excited about this movie. Like, to a fault. I have three t-shirts (I'm wearing one right now). I really commend them for giving a reason for the snakes' aggression, even though it's probably a bit iffy scientifically. And no one's going to take this seriously. I think most people are intelligent enough to realize that there's a big difference between your pet corn and some 20-foot anaconda on a plane trying to take out Samuel L. Jackson. Or whatever.
I love all those people shrieking in terror over corn snakes and stuff, though. It cracks me up.

Re: Rediculus movie
I admit I am looking forward to the movie too, not because I think it will be good or anything, I just know it will turn out to be a Cult Classic with a pretty big following some day. I wonder what they will call the sequel??? Snakes on a train? Lol.

Re: Rediculus movie
I just read a semi-interesting article on this movie in the latest Reptiles magazine. A few intersting tidbits:
In order to have a scientific reason for the snakes to attack, the snakes will supposedly be attracted to snake pheromones that are released on the plane along with the snakes. (Although I'm not sure why they couldn't have used a few mice running around the plane instead?)
They used 450 real snakes, but no more than 50 were seen at a time. They had a lot of extras due to preventing stress, feeding, etc.
Sam Jackson had in his contract that he wasn't to get closer than 20 feet to a real snake, although he did visit the snake room a couple of times.
They mostly used corn snakes, russian rat snakes, and milk snakes for the real snakes. However, they did have a real cobra, rattlesnake, and an 18-foot burm for a few real shots. They didn't mention if the hots were venomoids or not, though.
As far as my opinions on this movie... well, I do love a cheesy movie. :P However, I doubt if this will do anything positive for our hobby. It seems like I am forever running into ophidiophobes that want to kill every snake they come across, and I'm sure this movie will just add to those irrational fears.

Re: Rediculus movie
With all the dark side of things in real life I think this movie will be a nice chance to have a really good laugh.
It's meant to be a joke. And sometimes it is good for the soul to laugh and joke. :)

Re: Rediculus movie
LOL.....this movie looks like a joke....the article in Reptiles did not spark my interest any......Boelen's were used because the 'looked scary'....lol...
Did anyone else realize that the release date of the movie is August 18th......the same day that the Reptile Breeders Expo starts in Daytona?

Re: Rediculus movie
Oh, I remember a negative side. This happens almost anytime I talk about the BP I'm gonna get:
me: I'll be getting a snake in a couple of weeks, a ball python.
Them: Oh really! Will it be on a plane
Me: No actually I'm driving across town and picking it up at the breeder's place
Them: See a plane would be funny because there's this new movie coming out and...
ever since that movie got popular!

Re: Rediculus movie
it seems stupid to me. all the previews ive seen look really corny like anaconda. it lookes like they're using computer animated snakes or something. i think ill stick to my robotic shark in JAWS.
also, it doesnt give snakes a good name to the already snake fearing public at all. i dont like how reptiles magazine made it sound like it was a good movie. i dont want to and probably never will see it.

Re: Rediculus movie
Personally I'm really looking forward to seeing it. A number of people from my herp society are talking about getting together as a group to see it. It should be entertaining.
As far as being bad press for snakes, I don't think it'll make any difference. People who hate snakes aren't going to hate them any more and people who like snakes aren't going to like them any less. It's just a movie.
Speaking of reptiles in movies though, I just saw Pirates of the Caribbean today and saw a sinaloan milksnake, a green iguana and an albino burm. Anyone see anything I missed?

Same here. I was hoping they would show more of the Burm. :(
I yelled them out and my brother was like "are you gonna call out every animal"? Haha!

That's because the type of liberalism that is prevalent in Hollywood is the irrational, close-minded, PETA liberalism. Anti-Hollywood backlash is probably one of the main reasons that word "liberal" is considered an insult or conversation closer in so many situations.
A Snake isn’t a fuzzy creature......it's too alien and not cuddly or domesticable enough for the PETA types in Hollywood that would want to feed a carnivore veggies
What Hollywood mostly wants to do is make money not educate, enlighten, or expose the truth...It's not that I am one of those people that hate everything that comes out of Hollywood. Nor am I deeply suspicious or cynical about everything that comes out of Hollywood. My brother is a "struggling actor" that lives in LA and I've meet a lot of people that are the "automatic PETA members" cause its the thing actors do.....

There would be no harm done by this movie if most people were somewhat scientifically literate about biology, nature, the environment, animials, etc.
Furthermore, a lot people haven’t learned that critical thinking and skepticism are fundamental to the nature of science. So when movie makers try to make something sound "scientific" some people might confuse the pseudoscience and fantasy of a (cheesy, somewhat comical) science fiction movie to be science......this is very, very bad.
Fanasty is fine as long as one realizes its fantasy, not reality.
PS>......It sounds like Samel Jackson was somewhat scared of the snakes, at least at first.....I'd give him a pass on a venomous snake.....but a boid or corn snake....I'll never watch Pulp Fiction the same way again....woops there I go mixing fantasy with reality.....:):)

Re: Rediculus movie
Posted this several months ago in a similar thread. But it's still good.
This movie is material for Mystery Science Theater 3000.
