    *Putting ur Ball Python Outside*
is it bad to have ur ball outside, like just letting it roam on the grass in ur front yard or something???

I've never taken mine outside but i was just wondering if it would be a bad idea or not...

I don't think it's a bad idea just make sure there are no other animal's around that can hurt your Bp. And alway's keep an eye on um.

I used to take Spoon outside for short periods to do photos. I never had a problem personally, but I would just make sure you stay close and keep an eye on him. I would also not recommend keeping him out there for more than 5-10 minutes. He could get mites or ticks, or get overheated by the sun. Another big thing I'd probably consider is his personality...is he easily stressed or jumpy? If so, a trip outside may not be the best idea. Spoon is an older, calm, and trusting snake, so he never had a problem. He used to sit up and watch stuff. :)

no, it is a very calm snake, i was worried about it getting ticks or mites from the grass...

I think if you don't leave him out there for more than 5 minutes or so, he should be OK. It's still a risk, but up to you.

I take Ophelia outside whenever I get the chance. She seems to "enjoy" the outtings we have. My only suggestion to you would be just to check your kids over before you bring them in the house. I usually give her a bath afterward just incase there's anything on the grass that might be absorbed. O_o That, and she loves being in the tub, or so it seems.

And don't take your eyes off them! I stopped watching one of mine to pull a couple weeds, and he was well away and VERY well camoflaged. I found him after a good 10 minutes of searching, and I am sure he would not have "gotten away" because of the location I was in. But still, it only takes one minute for the lethargic, lazy ball of snake to dart(well, okay slither quickly) off into a different area to hide.

Just make sure your lawn isn't sprayed with anything. I am now avoiding taking my snakes outside on the grass, as they have spread liquid manure around the fields outside to fertilize. (luckily the smell has faded away some; I always laugh when I see air fresheners that say "Country Fresh", Lol.)

I was planning on doing the same when mine gets bigger. Maybe during the fall when it isn't so blazing hot (SoCal heat, woooo. *disgusted* )

Good idea about the bath - they normally enjoy them anyway.

My girl loves being outside ... (chance to show her off :D)

The other thing to consider applies to apartment dwellers (such as myself). You may not want to take your slithery friends outside where your possibly pyscho apartment neighbors can see your snake and then report it to the management.

We don't take our girls out because of this!

I'm an apartment dweller, and I definitely didn't care. In fact, when I take them out, some of my neighbors come up and talk to me. They're even willing to hold Ophelia. ^_^

I live in a house too, but I DO care about what my neighbors think.. that is how laws get dreged up to stop ownership of such animals.

In the last place I lived, my neighbors freaked and I actually had animal welfare out there checking, but they went away cause the neighbors made crud up and said they were neglected and dirty cages, etc.. but the person has never ever been in my house or near it..she just hated snakes.. she ended up calling them several more times, but they finally pressed charges on her, however, she got some others invloved that lived around me and when I started getting nasty messages spray painted on the house and harrassed..we moved..... they even spray painted that I was a devil worshipper and crap right on the house...caused me to pay for new paint in the process cause I could not prove who did it exactly....

Here I am actually happy with my neighbors, at first I was a bit cautious about taking snakes/herps outside, but my neighbors are actually all cool with it here... it is b/c of the herps that I know a few of my neighbors....

I would advise taking a bit of caution when taking herps outside, you never know with ppl now a days and you never know if that law suit is coming cause the "witch next door whos mom had a heart attck cause she saw your snake" may fiile a wrongful death suit..granted it may be hard to prove, but do you really want the aggrivation/stress and media involvment when media tends to shed light in a cruddy way on reptiles most of the time?

I can see where problems like that arise. But what gets me is that people can play their damn rap music so loud windows and car panels start shaking, yet you take your innocent snake outside (god forbid it represents the devil somehow) and you're a criminal. I wish my dad still had is Diamondback, so if neighbors started complaining I'd sick him after them (lawsuits wouldn't be pretty).

To each their own. I listen to metal and industrial, but I keep it at a minimum. :P

I think mine would be cool with it, one side is for sale, the other people seem cool. Across the street is a cool family who'd probly like the snakes.

Yeah, I know what you mean about things like noise violations... I deal with them daily here, yet the police wont do anything... but dang, if someone called on me about my snakes..I'd be in hot water...

Dont feel bad though, I get sick of the rattling windows of my house from those that think it is cool to park outside my house late at night for someone who lives 2 houses down, with thier music (rap ofcourse) blairing..... besides to be honest, that bass actually makes me very irritated when I have to hear it outside my house for extended periods of time, the vibration through the house drives me crazy....... I can only imagine how my animals feel.

The neighbor thing is just something to think about. People who don't know anything about and/or don't like reptiles can cause problems, for you and for herpers in your area by trying to pass stupid, uneducated laws. We should remember that we are not only pet owners/breeders of some really awesome animals but we need to be ambassadors for owning reptiles as pets. =)

I know that well. I lost out on a cheap, wonderfully located place to live because one of the roommates was uneducated. But you're right. We are ambassadors of the reptiles we love so much.

It's time ALL reptile owners were Proud Americans, and stopped acting like...*Inserts all sorts of inappropriate nouns.*

Just be responsible with your scalekids...That's all I can say.

As to taking your bp out side, I take Paris out all the time, he's never gotten mites or any bugs, I just make sure he's clean before I put him back in his cage.

I'd be more concerned w/the insecticides or fertilizers in ANY grass/lawn/field that I didn't control (or know of the care) personally. A lot of chemicals can be absorbed thru the skin, and the snake slithering on his belly would get quite a time of exposure. I'm sure washing (MAYBE a mild soap? or at least a loooooooong rinse w/clean water) would be okay, but I would be very diligent to keep an eye on him.

Besides, they're native to Africa and like the warmth...I don't think the heat outside is going to hurt for the amount of time he'll be outside moving around.

    Enjoy!
