Albino to pastel
Starting to make some plan's , tell me if I'm wrong. If you breed an albino to a pastel the clutch would all be pastel's which would be 100%hetalbino.

Re: Albino to pastel
Nope. You'd have a 50% chance of getting pastels, but they would all be Het for Albino.

Re: Albino to pastel
So out of four hatchling's I'd have I'd still have 2 norm's and two pastel's? But wouldn't they all be 100%? That's what I don't understand

Re: Albino to pastel
Have you seen the pictures of the pastel albinos?

Not sure where you can find them online, and I don't have permission to share the ones that I have, but I'd think you'd definitely want to find those pics before you start on an albino pastel project.

Re: Albino to pastel
IMO they're not that spectacular. Ralph Davis has a page about it in his Matrix:

Pastel and albino genes are different. The pastel gene is dominant, so breeding a pastel to a normal, the average breakdown is that half the babies would be pastel, half would be normal (since both pastel and normal are dominant genes).
The albino gene is recessive, which means a dominant gene will always win out unless both parents just have the recessive gene. So, for example, breed an albino to a normal, all the baby look normal but all carry the albino gene (100% het for albino). Breed an albino to an albino and bam, all albinos.
Okay, so breeding a pastel to an albino and you'll get, on average half the snakes that look pastel and half that look normal, but all will carry the albino gene. Make sense?
Others please correct me if I'm wrong!

Re: Albino to pastel
Thanx Jen from what I saw it's probably not a big deal. The head fading is not going to make an already amazing animal more appealing. What do you guy's think?

Yes, they would all be 100% Het. Think of it this way, the pastel is essentially a Het and the albino is Homozygous. If you were to breed a Super Pastel to an Albino, you would get all Pastels that were all 100% Het for Albino. Adam is right, though. A pastel Albino isn't very impressive. I don't know of too many 'mixes' that are cool with Abinos except for Pieds and the pattern morphs (spiders, pins) but that might change this year with Super Cinnies... but it might make "just another" white snake. ;)

Genetics take some time to understand. Here are some good links for reading up on genetics, geared towards ball pythons:

Re: Albino to pastel
Adam, I heard that the Bell's hatched out a Super Pastel Albino that looks pretty cool, but I haven't seen any pics of it.

It's definitely pretty cool ... I also think that the pastel albino is pretty cool as well ... I'm a really big fan of the project ... I just find from talking with people that the pastel albinos don't look the way most people commonly expect them to.

Re: Albino to pastel
Mentioning a super cinnamon/albino... wouldn't that snake end up all orange? (yellow)
Just wondering...

That's what a lot of people are hoping for, but they won't know until one hatches. ;)

Re: Albino to pastel
I have this link that I found awhiles back.
The Genetics Wizard will build your query form based upon your choices.
Choose the total number of mutant genetic traits you want considered.

That thing is nifty. Nice find.

Re: Albino to pastel
Albino Pastel male bred to spider females
All the spiders would be het for albino (sweet!)
All the bumblebees would be het for albino (sweet genetically!)
All the pastels would be het for albino (genetics! woo!)
All the normals would be het for albino (noice)
It may not be a good pursuit for the best most pretty snake, but genetics and uniqueness +++ :)
